Default Ford Radio Problems. Anyone can help?

Hey everyone. Having some problem with my Escorts stereo. I'm guessing its the tape heads becuse sometimes tapes/tape adapters only play through the drivers side speakers, ocasionaly they all work, but theres no problem with the radio. that comes through all four all the time. Its just a pain in the arse really.

I just went out and bough a tape head cleaner to see if it was muck clogging up the heads but that hasnt worked.

Any ideas? would it be posible to replace the heads in the unit insted of buying a new one? I have all the origional docs with this tape so im trying to keep the car origional. or would it be easyer to get a new unit?

The stereo is like this one and its in a 95 escort: http://www.instant-radio-code.co.uk/...76ad.jpg:fume:

An intermittent fault normally means a loose connection somewhere inside, But it's really difficult to say.... I don't think it's the heads personally, but I could be wrong. to fix it, I would say that it needed stripping and inspecting... If this is beyond economic repair, it would probably be cheaper to replace.

Use some after shave on a long cotton wool bud to physically clean the rollers, and the head, does it make a buzzing sound when on tape when playing, the heads can be become magnetised, a de magnetiser tape is only a few pounds, but I doubt it is this, the heads are so much harder than the cassette tape material that it needs some serious use to wear out physically.
A repair if needed replacing the head if it's that, is not as bad as you think.
I use Fullers, in Neddham Market, bob fuller owns the place this is the main repair place for all kenwood audio in uk, as well as doing pretty much all other makes repair wise.
Would be worth a ring 01728 746100.

thanks guys. it doesnt make a buzzing noise at all its actully quite quiet. I guess first thing would be to try and get it out and open it up to see if theres anything obviusly off. I just need to get some of them radio remover prongs off amazon or somthing.(never came with the car). If not ill give Fullers a ring.
