pinto into sierra
hi, this has probably been covered before but i cant find it. I have a sierra that was originbally a carbed 2l dohc but the previous owner removed the engine from the car. I have been looking for another twincam but have been offered a 2l from a mk5 cortina (in local scrappy due to scrappage scheme ) that I might go for. I no very little about fords but I believe this would be a pinto? so it should be an easy fit as somer sierras came with these anyway? what parts would need changing to fit this engine and what parts should I make sure to take from the cortina? are the looms the same? I've got all the original parts from my car minus the block.
any help appreciated, cheers.

A 2L in a mk5 tina will certainly be a pinto same bottom end the cossie is based on, apart from uprated components used the block is the same.
Yes with correct parts will fit straight in, get the box from the mk5 also, noy sure but suspect it may have been changed to the type 9 gearbox(5 speed) as this was popular, don't know much about tina's, but box is about the biggest thing to sort next to engine.
The other issue is trhe wiring looms will be different as the tina was carb and the sierra EFI, but can still use the fuel lines for the carb no problem, ie take off efi pump and use the return to feed the mechanical fuel pump on the pinto block.
As ford used the pinto in the mk1 and 2 sierra no part is going to be hard to get some even new.
Tina will likely/should come with a webber 32/36 DGAV carb, a excellent carb used right up till 1988 in 2L capri(man and auto), but for speed this can be swapped direct with a 38 DGAS(3L capri) or even 40DFI if you can find one.

I don't think it will be a 205 block, the 5 was added when the block was revised in 1985 and is known as the Sierra injection block, Cortinas seized production in 1982. Prior to this the blocks were 20 blocks that depicting the capacity, 2 liters in this case.
The engine will fit straight in, no need for any looms if staying with carb, will need to mod the coil negative as DOHC was electronic where as Pinto is mechanical with vacuum advance.
