New Turbo Blown
Guys, scratching my head with this one.
I built a 1.7 zetec se turbo last year and had the garret turbo reconed and modified to t28 spec by a turbo company. There was nothing wrong with the Turbo, just wanted it checking out to be safe.
However its shat itself after 1 track day and 8hrs of dyno time. The company says its a oil pressure feed problem. The oil pressure is fine, the feed pipe is clear as the vasts amounts of oil down the exhaust pipe varify this. They then said it could be a interupted oil feed problem or a oil pump prob.
I did notice a small amount of bluish smoke before it went bang, but no bearing noises etc etc.
I cant put a new turbo on until I get to the bottom of it. Ive sent it off to another engineer to get an inspection done.
Is it possible the oil seals could have gone first and starved the bearing causing it to sieze to the shaft.
Any help would be appreciated.

Right had a report back today from engineers, they recone that this turbo aint quite built to the spec they stated. So looks like ive been shafted. Im going to ring the company involved and see what they have to say and if no joy. Ill tell you what they have done and what they said they had done.
Tell them you have an independent report confirming that the turbo is not what you paid for the what you required and was found to be defective. So either they provide you with a new turbo exactly to the spec you paid for or tell them trading standard and courts will be involved.
Trading Standards are now looking into it. Original builder adamant that a T2 garrett with a citroen-nissan 360 brg and a dash14 summat with a weak actuater that they built is good for 300bhp,
I now how a turbo works but dont have a clue whats a good spec internally, thats why I sent it to a specialist!!!!
They are sticking by the old, "Got to be oil feed problem" and that the third party inspection is wrong!!!! - wish it was oil pressure, then I can sort it, but if its got good oil feed and good pressure - What can I do??

Ill keep you posted, I dont want to put there company name up yet because ITS been dealt with by TS and I know what you lot a like on here and would like to give them the opertunity to put it right.
Just pisses me off and companies arnt willing to help and just try and fob you off. If they had said look as a good will jesture we will go halfs, yes great but still dont sort my problem out. So do I now strip my engine and replace the new oil pump, clean out the new engine block and head, replace the new oil feed pipe because they say its an oil problem, but gauges, exhaust full of oil, warning alarms and manual checks show I aint got a pressure problem!!!!!
Sounds stupid, but you cant have to much oil feed or pressure can you!!!!

If they've sold you the turbo on specifications, 'unfit for purpose' I believe is the legal phrase for the situation. Hope it gets sorted for you, I've not heard of someone turbo-ing one of those engines before.
Hopefully this will be just for interest's sake (and it all gets sorted without fuss), but you can check the Sale of Good Act, http://www.opsi.gov.uk/RevisedStatut..._19790054_en_1
This is from paragraph 14:
(3)Where the seller sells goods in the course of a business and the buyer, expressly or by implication, makes known—
(a)to the seller, or
(b)where the purchase price or part of it is payable by instalments and the goods were previously sold by a credit-broker to the seller, to that credit-broker,
any particular purpose for which the goods are being bought, there is an implied term that the goods supplied under the contract are reasonably fit for that purpose, whether or not that is a purpose for which such goods are commonly supplied, except where the circumstances show that the buyer does not rely, or that it is unreasonable for him to rely, on the skill or judgment of the seller or credit-broker.

Trading standards sent me a standard letter to send to them basically asking them to do the right thing!!!
Theres only a few Zetec se engines converted properly. Mine was the first one done by Severn Valley Motorsport back in the late 90,s and was used by Ford and driven by Niel Collins ( so im led to believe). Its done the rounds and eventually I ended up with it.
I sourced a new block and Arias built my pistons, replaced everything with new. I sent the turbo off as I wanted to see how much power I could get from this engine. This proved a waste of time!!!!!
So guys im after some help, I need to find a Turbo that basically will replace a T2 thats fitted to this car that will be safe up to 300 hp. I think the T2 that was on is the same fitted to a turbo fiesta - im sure you guys will know what I mean. Its got the 90 degree outlet from the turbo to fit to the down pipe.
Can anyone please recommend a replacement that will fit with little modification for me as I need to get this car up and running !!!
Thanks
Bouncy!!!!
