alternator loom question
hi all, i have a 88 spec escort rs turbo. i have purchased a new alternator where the wiring is different is a bit differennt. just a quik question about the loom....
i have found out where the 2 b+ wires go on the alternator, but i am thinking of renewing the wires from alternator to battery as these are old. do they go straight from B+ on alt to battery+ or do they go off somewhere else in the loom first??
does the alternator need to be grounded or does it get good enuf earth off engine.
and there is a smaller wire that goes to dash bulb, my dash bulb does not work, does this need to be wired for the alt to charge the battery or is this solely for the warning light?
cheers, aaron

The warning light needs to work, so renew the bulb, the blue wire as you know goes on the "IND" of the terminal for this.
It will normally start to charge if revved high enough, this is a built in safeguard.
The B+ wires normally go direct to the battery, on some cars they go to the starter feed, as this is direct from the battery too.
If you unpick the insulation you'll find they are actually joined together in the loom, into one wire that is thinner than the two reds were, and the soldered joint will be absolutely covered in corrosion.
Engine grounding is totally adequate, as it needs to be to operate/supply earth to the starter anyway.
