hi can any1 help!
i finally got my series1 fired up then noticed the gauge werent workin i then realised there wasent a temp sender switch in the head i then tried fitting 1 then realised someones tried drilling the old 1 out, so i got fitting made up for the sender to fit in the water pipe earthed it and all the gauge keeps doing is going to the max and not coming back down, i even bought a new switch but no different!

if you earth the wire for the temp gauge it will go into the red, it should be connected to the switch. if that helps

adam at sevs told me that i need to earth the switch because it usually sits in the head so is already earthed thats why i need to earth it aswell as the switch cuz it now is in the water pipe, if i dont earth it nuthin happens!

Correct the gauge will need to be earthed as you now have it is a plastic hose, so cannot earth through it, however I'm guessting you have your earth connection on the nut part of the sensor at the top. I think if you had it on the thread part which sits inside the hole it would work. IMO if it was me I would try and get the other one drilled out and the thread retapped.

Martin.

If you look at the sender carefully you will notice there is a plastic seperator between inner and outer, usually coloured a certain colour for/to denote resistance for matching to gauge.
Just earth the new hose sender holder, I assume it's metal ?, then the sender will work, if the correct one and the gauge is ok as it seems to be it will read correct.

The test for the gauge is simply to erath the wire out, upon which it will read maximum, if it does all well and good if not gauge is bust, as this has been done we know the gauge is ok.
The only thing that cnges with temp is the resistance of the sensor, it needs a good earth as thta is what it changes the resistance of, it how much of the "earth" it lets through to the wire that goes to the gauge, so if misreading, there is a mismatch of resistancis between gauge and sender, so I would try a different sender.
