Default P8 "baby" board

Having got the car checked over at turbosystems im now left with a dilema as what to do with my ECU.

As it stands i have a early collins copy of a pectel board but not sure which version it is. From what i understand some of the very early stuff collins popped out had serious flaws and it depends which version of firmware you have. So obviously i want to identify the board to work out wether to junk it or keep it!!

I know my chip has to go as its a terry drury chip which is a rallycross map for a restricted rally engine using air injectors - and my car has no restrictor and is a road car

To aid identification i pulled ECU out car for a nosey (cars broken ).

Removing the cover:

WTF bits of foam!!

Under the foam there is yellow tape:

And under the tape you can see the chip. note theres no manufacturer sticker etc like other tuners do to identify the product! As i understand it, the red paint is what terry drury did on his products?!?

Nothing under the board to help me either:

It does have "P8" written on it in two places but thats it.

Also on the main ECU circuit board there are these big blobs of white stuff:

What the hell is going on with that??

so anyone know which kind of pectel board copy it is?? Will collins themselves be able to identify it???

I'm sure Collins would be able to identify it, surely your best 1st bet ?

wow looks like you have a small fried egg inside your ecu

acyually that stuff is usually used to protect capacitors and the like from being damaged/pressed onto circuit board and shorting ..
still looks like an egg tho

take the bottom cover off of the ecu, those components with the white paste on might have been repaired....you will be able to tell from the solder underneath if they have been reworked at some point.
I say this as the paste looks to have been applied after the ecu was assembled...small bits on teh clip between the blobs. Plus i've never seen this on any cossie ecu i've opened up before.

Cheers

Costina is right with everything he's said so far

Our chips do away with the baby boards and go straight into the motherboard and the white goo is present in P8s from the factory.

Might be of interest to you Warren, we've been doing some development on P8 Launch Control as well as ALS!

cool!!

I know about ALS etc as ive spoken to stu about sorting a chip out late last year, just had serious financial issues since with jobs that didnt materialise and breakdowns now ive got job and car running

Probably going to have to buy a basic chip then upgrade from there as i save money. annoying really!!

had a good look at the P8 circuit board last night and it hasnt been repaired in any obvious way near the goo!!

Was the P8 circuit board used in other cars/had later revisions???

I notice theres a lot of unused componant pads and tracks on the circuit board:

Also what used/is here on other same generation ECU's?? some kind of adjustment screw judging by hole??

My P8 has the adjustment screw. Some came with, some came without.

O'Rly....Learn something new every day, I've been inside an old P8 Ihad years ago and never noticed any globs like that, maybe it wasnt a P8?? Or maybe I just didnt notice it (more likely) LOL
