2wd rear diff ....problems...!!!
Hi...I have just got my diff back after a major rebuild...they have changed prety much evrything...including the diff housing.
It all looks perfect...BUT..when I tried to put it back on it did not fit...it hits the mounting the left side
It seems that it is to wide....does anyone know if there are different diff housings...I know the 4wd ones..but they are a bit smaller...please advice

It should all fit straight in, scorpio housings are identical. How far out is it? Are you sure your car has the 2wd 7.5" beam and not an xr 4x4 or 4x4 cossie 7" beam in it? Measure across the rear mounting points to find out, as a LOT of cars have the wrong beams in due to people putting them over kerbs sideways etc.

I have found out that it is a late type Scorpio diff house (frog eyed scorpio ) and it wont fit...
Been told by the company that I should just cut away the ribs to make it fit....anyone have a opinion on that ???

Personally I'd send it back and have THEM do any modifications, as they've cocked up. Presumably they asked what it came from when you sent it in? If so, they should've repaired/refurbished it accordingly.

'HE he ..I would but problem is that I live in Denmark and the company is in England
They knew that it is for a 2wd....its a long story...put in short.....I broke it...send it to them to have it build and uprated....got it back and put on the car(fitted perfect)...but it had a problem ..big whine...so they took it back...checked it but found noting and said that it was ok and send it back...but still there was a problem and I got a lokal company to look at it they said "send it back" and so I did and once again they checked it and build a new one...now I got it back and it wont fit...
And now they told me to cut it a bit to make it fit.........I dont know....?

Well I dont think that it will help to put them up here as they in fact have tried to solve it..so for now I would rather not mention them ...its just that I'm trying to find out if it is a good idea to cut away the ribs to make it fit .... like will it be weaker ?
#16
DONT think it would be making it weaker tbh their there more for cooling IMO and I'd rather have a diff cover intact than have it looking like its been bodged looking again IMO!

hmmm..so you would send it back....well I would normally insist on it, but I dont want to wait weeks ...maybe month to have it back...so I'm kind of locked in this ... or what ever you say in english.. ... I really dont know

the scorpios had different ratios to cossies too.....might be worth checking the ratio as it sounds like (being a bit synical here) they've cobbled together a diff from bits lying about.
The frogeyed scorpio came with an open diff (had traction control) so check that it's deffinately an LSD too
I personally would send it back and have it built into a cossie housing, like the one you sent...as the scorpio housing will mean resale value is less if its got cut ribs or if you tell people its not gen cossie.

If you're intent on keeping it then just modify your beam, cut a section out and have a strengthening piece welded in. That's the way i'd do it as most garages can weld steel & you're gambling with grinding the ribs off of the diff housing.

Ok ... I have been thinking about this too, but I have the car on stands in my garage and cant do welding myself :-(
I just find it strange that the company just tell's me this ...
"It looks as though the new case that we used is the later heavy duty reinforced case(from the Granada Scorpio), if the larger ribs on this case is in the way of your mount please cut them back to allow 2-3mm of clearance to the mount and it will be fine"
...??

I think you should just do what suits you best, cutting the ribs wont make it break as they're obviously additional/extra ribs that the cossie housing doesnt havein that area.
After all if it breaks would you go back to them? I wouldnt after reading your dealings with them.

I'd get it in writing that they will still honour any warranty if you take a grinder to it. Any "modification" could technically void it. I know they have suggested grinding the ribs back, but I would want it specifically worded.
If they are not prepared to do that, I'd send the diff back and tell them to get it right.

Anyone has an idea about what could be wrong as I take that al has been cheked by the company (well hopefully) ??
The company, who has tried to make ok twice after the rebuild, said that they could not help me anymore unless I take my car to them ... witch is difficult as I live in DK and do not want to take that long drive with an "problem diff" :-(
