was just woundering if any body knows is it possible to use the 1.8 zetec engine from a 1997 escort gti to do a zvh or do i have to use the 2.0l silver top mondeo engine cheers greg
to do a 1.8 ZVH u use a 1.8 engine to do a 2.1 or 2 litre u use the 2 litre one!
so is it the same to do we have done the 2.0l befor its just that i have the 1.8 gti engine here already and is the standard block and internals just as strong as the 2.0l cheers its just i have been told its hard to use the 1.8 and not as strong

the 1.8 pistons have a thicker crown so they are stronger infact. its easyer to build a 1.8 zvh than a 2.0 as you can use a standard head and standard cvh head gasket
Only differences i have found out in the past week is that the 2.0 uses stronger rods and the block itself is stronger allowing the conversion to chuck loads of abuse at it. The 1.8 is also very sufficient for the job in hand. Thats what Im having done to mine within the next few days

the 1.8 and the 2.0 silver top blocks are the same mate the 2.0 is boared out version of a 1.8 so less metal = less strenth its not rocket sicence the 1.8 is stronger
the rods same agan im afrayed the 1.8 and the 2.0 shair the same rods
i must add tho the standard 2.0 block will take 500bhp with out any problems

so what your sayn is i wont need the de compression plate for the 1.8 standard block just use a 1.6 cvh head gasket and streched head bolts and jobs a good un

nooooooooooooo i wouldend use streched head bolts i would use strech head bolts or zvh head bolts you can get them from burton power
you still need to lower the compression either a decom plate as you said or i would remove the pistons and have 0.5 skimmed off the top as its a 1.8 zetec it bhas thicker crowns unlike the 2.0 where skimming is not realy advised

No they're not, the 1.8 is a very different casting. The 1.8 should technically be the stronger and more reliable block, not just because it's a smaller bore.

so r u sayin that the 1.8 needs more work or just that the 1.8 is stronger than the 2l one i have been told by some people that there is more work in using the 1.8 what kinda boost is safe on the standard bottom end
