What do you mean by polished??

You can re-use pistons once cleaned and if they are NOT badly worn around the skirts/little end diameter.

it depends. if the piston had a bigger gudeon pin like XE pistons for example you can modify the conrod to accept the bigger pin but if you have a set of pistons with a smaller gudeon pin then i dont see a way around it. Not to mention the CR as your new rod & pison combo may now be too tall and hit a valve or too small and give a crap CR

if your rebuilding a motor why bother? just buy new for peace of mind

do it right first time rather than piss about with used pistons

You can polish the tops which offers some thermal advantages, however do not touch the skirts with anything heavily abrasive as you might take off a small amount of material and change the skirt to bore clearance which might result in piston slap.

JAmes.

if its just to make them shiney then dont bother as a small corbon build up can actualy improve he piston seal and cylinder leakage
if your pistons/bores are even slightly worn then i'd say renew,
best to only do it once, do it right 1st time then forget about it
if you gotta keep stripping it down you'll get sick of it and want rid of it
