Default mk4 efi escort sounding like a v8

Well ok not quite a v8 but bascially the gf was driving her cab thru town when it started to run and sound like a sack of shit, lacking power and sounded really running rough almost like a fucked V8 sort of noise. I was hoping it was a lifter or the cam as i had an old orion of mine wear a lifter out which caused a similar problem but checked all the lifters and inspected the cam lobes down the lifter holes and none seemed worn?!

Gonna check the compression to see whats going on there but if that comes out ok them am i right in assuming one or some of the bearings have gone?! not sure why really as was enough oil and it was just round town but, hey ho had 2 go again at some point

don't sound like a bearing unless there is a knocking noise a little one if it's a top end and a big horrible thump if it's a bottom end bearing,

it sounds like a fuel problem or spark if it isn't a lifter, comp test the 4 clylinders check there all about the same within 10% and about 120-170 psi i'd say i have been told an engine is ok to 100psi but not sure how good at that comp,

it could be a shite injector or broken down lead so have the plug's out and but take the king lead off the coil pack so you don't ark anywhere, turn it over and see if the injectors are spraying fuel, if not check each plug to see if it's them and hopefully that'll narrow your problem down

I would say you got a lead breaking down. With it running (carefully using grips or similar) pull each lead off from the plug and when doing this see which one makes the LEAST difference. This will be your problem lead. My monies on cylinder 4.
Worth a try. Its a cheap fix, relatively.

Cheers for the tips, found the manifold itself blowing on the downpipe, the welds have broken inside where the mating plate is welded to the pipes so gasses are getting out from there!!!
