NO NO NO, the lean burn head will raise the compression, so not good for an RS turbo.

You CANNOT use the lean burn 1.6cvh head on a std RS turbo bottom end. This is because the std RS turbo has a 2mm piston protrusion at TDC above the deck height. The head gasket is only 1.5mm thick, and hence if you fit the lean burn head to a std RS turbo bottom end, the pistons will make heavy contact with the combustion chamber "beak" resulting in horrendous noise and bent con-rods!!

A second issue is the high compression ratio this results in, but that is insignificant in comparison to the 1st problem!!!!!

The XR has a head identical to the RS turbo and not the lean burn variant as fitted to carburettor models from -86.

Hi Karl looking for a little help here. Going to double check everything but getting 1.5 mm taken off me pistons crowns to give me a CR off 8.6:1. My head has been skimmed a lot and turned out at 48.5cc. Do you think I will have enough squish clearance? I have enough piston to valve clearance I think ( around 2mm ) just worried about my head hitting pistons. Valves are only about 1mm deeper than the face off the head as been skimmed that much.

This is an 8yr old thread and Karl is fairly inactive on here now.
Better to start a new topic in the RST room - plenty of knowledgable folk about to answer.
