not certain but i think some tuners used a block from the states as it had the bigger capasity instead of boaring out a 1.6. again not sure if this is correct but i'm sure someone on here will know something (neil using max hustler log in)

Yes mate it is a u.s engine out of their escort, ive got a 1.9 cvh american tall block in mine and its a popular route for specialised engines and a few others.

I think the block is a 1860cc capacity, the conversion is available in this standard bore which allows for a rebore when the engines tired or 1905cc straight away which is still within ford tolerances, thats why some people use this route as it the increased capacity within tolerance and the nice gain in torque which is attractive.

Dont get it confused with the other 1.9 conversions that are out there though as they use different routes to achieve the desired capacity, some are shoddy to say the least.

Default Tesco compare

Just out of intrest how much does the 1.9 tall block cost. Lets say the cost of the block ready to go straight in.

I just wonder how it compares to ZVH builds.

to be honest mate you are better off going down the zvh route, parts are so much easier to get your hands on, especially if you need to rebuild it at some point. thats the reason im going zvh now, its cheaper for me to have a bullet proof zvh than get my 1.9cvh built to the same spec...........dont get me wrong, my 1.9cvh is a great engine, drives beautifully with plenty of power for the road ( 260bhp ) but if your wanting 300+ the cost is through the roof.

just an example, i got a quote for a new tall block bottom end only with steel rods and forged pistons ready for your head of choice and that came in at just under 2k.

just looked at mine and the pistons are bigger than 1.6...but it still has 1.6 stamped on the side of the block so it must have been bored out yeh
