Default Cossie wont start????????

Putting this up on behalf off my bro, as i think he is ready to weigh it in, as its really getting to him.

Its a J plate 4x4 saph. Standard engine, ran well until last week broke down and wont start. Amate suggested the phase sensor so he bought a full sensor kit and new plugs and fitted them all yesterday...however not much differance. The car will fire and run, then just cut out after a wee while of running, sometimes does start and just turns over, clicking and making wierd almost screeching noises???

Also been suggested that it could be the sensor that is on the passenger inner wing, is it the ignition module??

Ant thoughts or pointers would be greatful as he is going mad and dont want to see it getting neglected or broken!!!

Well changed the dizzy cap, so you mean the shaft that comes up and the rotor arm sits on??

should it be solid, no movement at at???

Many thanks

yer you will always have some play in the rotor arm i mean the actual shaft the rotor arm sits on should be next to no play in it

hmm might be the ignition module, when the car cuts out and you try to restart it,does the fuel pump prime/run?

Aaah....never even thought about the fuel side of it all???? when the car was running wouldnt fully rev through the full range???

Maybe a problem with fuel getting through???

Few people questioned the ignition module, as its been changed before and the wiring to it has no insulting tape, i.e like someone has been fiddling before.

Really appreciate your advice mate, sometimes just need a third input to offer a extra idea, now what its like when you annoyed at your motor .

I would defo change the filter if not done recently, ie in the last two years.
There should be ABSOLUTELY NO PLAY AT ALL, in the dizzy shaft, if there is, it has likely spun the top crushed iron bush, as these are crap, theyu pick up and spin in the alloy housing of the dizzy body, they can be repaired (£35) with an oilight bush, for perfect problem free running.
The arm should have no play, but a lot do, a thin piece of card inserted between the arm and shaft stops this.

My J reg saff cossie had a similar fault on it. You could start the car up drive for about 5 mins and it would cut out. It turned out to be the fuel filter which had never been changed. It looked like ginness coming out of the filter when i tried to empty it out.

As above try changing the filter, did mine and it was also like pond water coming out with lots of shit mixed in, knackered my pump up too.
Filter still looked like new on outside and thats the mistake many people make that if it looks ok on outside then its ok on inside.
But for not so much coin its worth changing if unsure.
Good luck.
