Can't a pull up resistor be used to sort the weak signal?

thats what i was thinking martin, as Stack suggest it in there manual, using a pull resistor. unsure on the ohm rating though.

But only for some Tachs...
90% of the drivers we sell work the tachs perfectly fine with the suggested modification. The biggest problem are the early tachs such as these 3door ones as we havent had a set to work out how to modify them to accept a lower signal.

I am informed that the diode circuit above will work fine on the 3door tach, but i have yet to try it myself, although i did try it on an escos and it wouldnt work. Worth a try for the cost of the components.

Alternative remedies.
Use an Autometer tach signal doubler.
Fit an aftermarket counter.
Send clocks to a place who modify Tachs to wasted spark config.

Sorry Stu, think ive misunderstood slightly here.

So if I disconnect the "rpm output" wire on the ecu, and just take a feed off both tachos with a couple of diodes then my rev counter will work anyway as they generate the relevent spikes required by the dodgy ford tacho?

Apparently so mate... give it a try.

Your Ford tacho is watching the coil field, and the 2 amp wires are of course still connected to a coil each.
The voltage there is the same as it was on a std coil.

Makes perfect sense

I'll do that then, cool.

JJ will be pleased too, as that should fix his as well then.

I thought from the fact you had bothered to develop a seperate output that the coilpacks must spike less or something like that, but obviously it was just to make it as easy as possible for people to fit?

Well, we didnt, Simon did, and he assured me that the zener diode circuit wont work. And, when i tried it, it doesnt.

However, i have heard of it being used successfully, so please let me know how you get on pal.

How bizzare. And to be fair to Simon, he did develop it on an Escort.

chip, i think from what stu has said, simon developed the secs product on an escort, so an escort rev counter.

or maybe i've read it wrong?

Ryan, what is "it", do you mean the diode system detailed here that we are discussing, or are you chatting about something else?

Its that diode system that did NOT work on simon's car either from what Stu is saying, and thats why he said "to be fair to simon he did try in on an escort"

Could I fit a tacho from another car like a escort/mondeo that already uses a coilpack?

yes off pin 1 & 3 of the coilpack plug, or off Pin 1 on both the ignition amps, whichever is either, and neither are
