ive recently sold my cossie and bought a focus rs and i love or did till now lol! a couple of weeks ago it i had trouble starting it, i pressed the start button and nothin happened i did it a few times then it worked but the starter motor made a funny noise and it had been ok but makin the noise every time i started it so i thought the starter motor was on its way out so ordered a new one then wednesday it didnt want to do anything again so got the new starter motor fitted but it still does nothing when you press the button. ive checked the start button and the relay i think is for the starter motor and it seems fine but still does nothing when you press the start button. it bump starts fine and drives as normal!! any ideas anyone cheers. Dan.

Have ya checked the main earth cable to engine and to the body mate? It was that on mine evan thou its not frs but could be summat simple. Also sounds daft but check all fuses and cable from battery to starter. Good luck.

cheers mate but the engine earths seem ok i checked em on saturday. theres no power getting to the starter motor relay or intercooler pump relay but the relays work and the start button is working its a mystery!! its odd because the wiring diagram shows it coming straight from the battery through a 30 amp fuse and thats fine. the wiring diagram shows 2 pcm's (power control modules) i think it might be something to with 1 of them but god knows where they are. fords said its probably my ecu im not impressed!!!!

Damn mate your having about as much luck as me with my 4x4 saff cossy, One day it just decided to die when warm but ok from cold, so i replaced ect sensor which we all know can cause this but No still same.
Now ive replaced ect, ats, map, phase, plugs, leads, coil, and checked all resistences/voltages etc, But f##k me still the same, had local turbo guy on it and he says its now the fuel pump not giving enough pressure.
So thats a job for this w end, and also check voltage to pump as could be rewire job, its been 2 months now and im about ready to push the f###er off 1 of the mountains here lol.
Hope you have more luck than me mate, what about an auto electrician maybe they could find summat. Or try the awkward job of tracing the full circuit from ignition to battery/ starter etc. Sounds strange that the ecu has summat to do with the starter but we all know fords lol. Good luck buddy. steve

its looking more and more like ecu and that last post was me not knowing!! theres 1 pcm it is the ecu lol!! the dude that looks after my cars when i dont know what im doin is an oldskool mechanic/autoelectrician but is better with the older stuff but he'l sort it eventually! i no all about wiring in cossies mate. my last car was a magenta 4x4 hence my name as someone said to me once 'i never knew cossie came in brown' haha! it caught fire next to the 2 ecus behind the glovebox, was 1 of those bundle of relays and i chaned the entire wiring loom myself and that was fun but everything worked and was better than before!! you'll sort it!

not that simple mate being a modern ford its uses the pats immobiliser thing where it recognises the key and each ecu is programmed to each car! will find out next week the dude looking at it has been busy the last few days but he'll find out and prove whatever it is when he gets back on it!! even my cossie didnt go this wrong lol.
