Default Got a problem with the rear end of the GTi

Ive got a problem with the rear of my gti one side sits lower than the other. Ive had this problem for ages and still can find the problem. Ive changed my suspension to a full gmax kit 60mm thinking it was one of the shocks knackered because they were only standard but it is still the same. The drivers side arch sits just above the wheel which is about right for 60mm and the passenger side there is about 10mm gap. Could it be a bush in the axle? im unsure so any help will be appreciated. Oh also it passed the mot like it but its noticeable and is really bugging me now

Cheers, Nick

I was going to say, is the axel siezing up? not sure on the set up, but if you jack it up, take the bottom bolt off the shock and pull it away to free the axel and see how freely it moves

Funnily enough, i was round at rsdaz's the other night, him n his old man have had loads of mk5/6's n they said something about they all sit funny and the measurements to arches are always uneven or something.

I'll see if i can get the man himself to contribute

Mk3 & 4's always sit on the piss on the back end aswell, TBH Fords suspension set ups aren't very well desgined.....

And then theres the issue on Mk3 & 4's of one front wheel always having significantly more camber than the other......

You could get a big bag of cement and put it on one side of the boot to even it out

You could rip the whole axle off and strip everything down, measure the lengths of the springs etc, see if you can find anything seized/worn out.......

I had thought about going to the scrappy and getting a different axle and just swap them over. But don't want to buy a different one and its not the axle causing the trouble.

However a friend at work has got a proper lift ramp who said i can put the car on that so its totally level and like you said measure about and see if anything is uneven.

Cheers for the ideas tho mate keep em coming
