Default Pinto turbo conversion

Hello everybody!

I have a 18 years old Ford Sierra 2.0is that have done about 320.000 km.
In the las year I have realised that it has decreased its power, and the downpipe has a little crack. I think it's time to tune the engine, and I would like to do something more powerful than the standard one.

On the other hand, I recently have bought a 3dr Cosworth (stage 3), and I felt in love with turbos.

I have seen some Pinto turbo conversions in the net, and I want -I need- to do something like those. I'm from Spain, and here is not easy neither cheap to find tune parts for the Pinto. A turbo conversion could be the easiest way to gain a lot of power if I coudn't find other parts.

In addtion, I want the car for road use, so I can´t fit carburettors in order to be legal at the Tecnical Inspection. It could be possible to do a turbo conversion with no more than 30% power gain, keeping EFI injection and increase boost pressure after that. A Cosworth YB conversion would be much more than 30% power gain, so the legal process is a lot more difficult in this case.

I need a lot of help! Every information, documentation, experience, oppinion or stuff to do the conversion will be welcomed!!

EDITED: I'm very sorry! My English is very bad!

Rest assured your english is better than my spanish!!
Are you saying that 30% power hike is all you want ?, if so you can get easily more than that with hidden mods, and still get through tthe technical test, head and cam work, work really well on these.
If you want to go turbo route it seems a shame to peg it at 30% more power or is this the law or something in spain ?
If it is (the law) you can always have a switch to change between 30% and 100-200%, or you can remap etc for nice clean emmsions.

This is just what I want to do!!
The legal job to do in order to get through the technical test is much easier if the gain is less than 30%. I want to do this and then, increase boost pressure up to get about 200 bhp.

Overboring to 2.4 is too expensive, I think (I'm not sure if this is a mistake). The legal job for a YB conversion is much more difficult here, because the great power gain. So I think the turboed Pinto is the best option to me. How could I do this?

Forget 2.4 conversions as to costly, it is up to you but YB will give loads more power if you want, over a pinto, due to head design(16 valves).250 bhp out of a turbo pinto and clean emissions is relatively easy but costly.
If you have a aftermarket ECU, then software can be written that will achieve low emissions and big power, and just a CUT switch for the power at test time.
All turbo's have their boost controlled, by interupting this circuit you can drop the power to no boost at all.
You are looking at big valve head, different cam, aftermarket ecu(I+F), plus all the turbo install bits, either a T25/28/3 would suit.
I think your biggest problem is finding those bits ?
With the ecu you can have one with alternate maps, so you merely turn it from a full power map to a nothing map(no boost!).
Another major consideration is to get a ecu that people are familiar with where you are, so they can map it.
It is going to cost more than buying a cossie in the end so would this not be a better option, or is the test/law stopping this ?

Hi all
I've tried to contact ColtecRacing to get a camshaft to build my Pinto Turbo. You can see it here:
http://www.coltecracing.com/camshafts.html#pinto
They havn't replied me. Do you know if they don't accept foreingn buyers? If so, how could I get this cam or any similar?

There's loads of turbo Pintos in Finland with huge power and many proven low budget recipies too. One of the most common being the use of Saab H-engien rods and VW-mahle pistons. Three different models of turbo Sierras with the Pinto were also converted from new by the importer back in the days. You could get exhaust manifolds from these versions for example. You can try the international section in the forum at www.cosworthrsclub.com/foorumi for more information from turbo pinto drivers.

I've noy seen a pinto turbo manifold for years

The last one was appox 7 years ago

I had a 2.0is engine in my cortina with over 150000 miles on it

I put a KENT FR34 cam,4 branch manifold,FSE valve,K&N filter(cone)removed the viscous fan and it gave me 128 bhp and 127 lb ft

With 2.1 and a bit more compression and a stage 3 head could have seen 160 bhp imo

Good luck
