Default How bad ? cossie engine

Right got a bit of a problem to say the least , but how bad i dont know

Changed cam shaft oil seals and putting everything back together as in setting timing up etc, now timing i believe was ok BUT the plug connector to crank sensor was un plugged which through me off because wouldnt start ,plug is a bit dodgy actually , and set up rotor arm to the marker on the cap

Now redone timing after i put this sensor back on , and some how i used the wrong marker on crank pulley and i think you know where im going with this one

Engine wouldt turn over obviously as was as if it was jammed

Now upon realising this reset it all up corrctly this is when we noticed the wrong marker ! etc

Now started first time but sounds as if its runing on 3 cylinders

Now is it head off time , or something else

3dr cos

Yes it was actually correct about 5 times tbh , but that stupid connector coming out threw me off so thats why i kept re-doing it , but on the last time after connected plug back in this is when i realised the marker was the wrong one

Again it fird up but didnt sound as nice as it usually does

My fault , makes it feel all the better

Whats the likely scenario , damage wise

I suppose you forgot to spin it over by hand with the plugs out before trying to start it ??

its most likely you have bent a valve or 2, pull an injector plug off one at a time when its running and see what cyl makes no change ( the one that dose not change engine speed / note is the one to look into )

then you know what cyl to look at when the head is off !!

you should always turn the engine over by hand before starting to recheck the timing / check all is OK !!!

best of luck , we all make mistakes .....

Thanks dennis , will do this tomorrow .

Im slightly pi$$ed off because it was my fault , but there were some noises in there on start up in general that i wasn`t happy with so in a way its not the end of the world .

Its a fairly new car to me so can inspect the the rest on taking it to bits i suppose .

Heard norris motorport do good things to cyl heads so once its off iL prob give them a phone to get prices etc

One things for sure IL never make that mistake again

HI MATE yeh leave the inlet and exhuast on more to grab hold of ,then you can srip it on the bench better.when you come to put it back on cut 2 of your old head bolts heads off and cut a v in the top for a flat ended screw driver so you can screw these into the block to locate the new gasket as the bloke has no locating dowels.make sure you clean the head bolt holes in block out off old oil

Rab...

my advice is if your not confident then do not do it...

will end up costing more in the long run...

not knocking you mate as i wouldnt attempt it either..

thats what this site is bad for....people saying this is a piece of piss and thats is easy to do...

its obviously not....

will you be confivdent running big boost thru a head gasket fitted by yourself?

build it once and build it proper...best way

i know the basics of any engine are fairly simple..

i would class myself as handy with spanners but have never done any major work on my car.

i have no doubt if i had the time, tools and ramps etc that i could buld myself an engine but would rather pay an expert i trust to build an engine that i can rely on...

cossies give me enough slepless nites as it is
