Without sounding patronising.........How have you tested the wiring if you don't know how the circuit works.

The gearbox oil, im not 100% but its something like 5mm below the level of the filler plug. (assuming your car has a BC box) Check in a haynes manual would be your best option on that

what ive done is changed the water temp dial to one tht i know works, its off a set of clocks out of my old mk5 escort. anyway, it does the same thing, it has power cos wen u turn ignition on/off it will move very slightly, but its as if ther is no signal. ive checked wher the sender connects to the plug and a parts shop said to bridge the wire to see if the guage moves at all thn, i did tht and still no change, so im thinking tht its along the loom somewhere where the prob is. any thoughts?? cheers for the gearbox tip

Right ok.

Well iof you bridge the plug then the gauge should go into the red section.

Continuity test the Brown Wire to earth.

Continuity test the other wire on the plug to the end at the clocks (unplug the clocks)

for the gearbox, you need to fill it up on the front of the gearbox until the oil starts to dribble out, when it stops dribbling it fine.

the car MUST be on a level surface tho.

as for the wiring to the temp gauge, fook nows, after i fitted throttle bodies and aftermarket management to my mk6, it never worked lol

just shot straight up off the scale lol
