buying a used car and things that put you off
Ok, so I'm in the process of looking for another car to replace the Fiesta that was just written off.
When I look through the adverts, one of the main off puts for me is seeing 'Genuine reason for Sale' within the advert.
I'm sure it is a genuine reason, but for me it just screams 'THIS CAR IS FUCKED AND I WANT RID'
Anyone else get put off by things in the adverts?

it and first thing I saw when I opened the drivers door was a rust hole as big as your fist in the cill!! On further inspection it was as rotten as a pear and the passenger side of the car looked like it had been painted with a broom! To say I was pissed off would be an understatement!! Why do people lie so much?

When I was looking for a mk6 fiesta for the Mrs we traveled a fair way to view a 'mint' fiesta,
As soon as we pulled up it was clear it wasn't. Both front tyres on the limit. Lifted the bonnet and pulled the dipstick and it was almost bone dry.
Needless to say we walked away, I said to the guy 'I think your taking the piss' He just said yeah, Im sorry.

the thing that gets me nowadays is saying there is something wrong[for instance synchro fooked -or hole in wing etc] with the statement "its never bothered me etc"-this usually means they have no intention dipping their wedge to fix it as its expensive lol

I cant see why people selling cars cant be honest. The so called good condition cars are always donkey.
The cars look mint on the pics and when you see them in the flesh there donkeys.

Example just found;
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS CAR THAT I AM AWARE OF OTHER THAN LISTED BELOW. I AM SELLING IT CHEAPLY DUE TO BEING HEAVILY PREGNANT - please check insurance costs on this vehicle before bidding - no time wasters thank you
Small flaws not major -
Sunroof needs oiling as I have not opened it all summer and it's stuck this is a fairly simple job if you know how. It is closed and does not leak. I took it to a Peugeot dealership and they said it can happen if the roof is not opened enough and easy to sort with oil.
Bit of rust on side of door but only driver side which is understandable for the age of the car.
The side seat adjuster on the drivers side works and fixes In place but is lose .
Air con needs gas and central locking key might need battery but locks fine manually.
However car is at Ł250 with a day to go.

When someone describes an old car as 'mint'
Unless the car is brand new and never been driven then cars are never mint, they all pick up chips and scratches and it just show that the seller isn't going to be realistic about the condition.

My experience of one lady owner cars go like this"
Never serviced since new
All tyres are on the limit
All levels in engine bay below minimum
Wheels and tyres kerbed to hell
Interior like a landfill site
Badly fitted stereo worth more than the car and it's not for sale with the car
Scrapes bangs and scratches
Hasn't been washed or polished since new
Half the lights don't work and it's 2 years out of mot

PS a friend of a friend had it off me in the end, and still uses it as a station car ( after spending a few quid on it )

i got my last car and in the ad it said back seats never sat in....
car is a few years old and there were scuff marks on the centre console in the rear where it had been worn, clearly by shoes. it didn't put me off as the actual seats are unmarked.
then again, i traded in a car with only a part BMWSH without the book with stamps but did provide evidence through BMW helpline and they sold it as full service history.
people will say almost anything they think will help sell a car these days.

I see a golf for sale on eBay and noticed it had a sticker on the bonnet saying "dude I almost had you" and said Paul walker rip.
The guy wrote in the list of modifications about the sticker like that was gonna clinch the deal lol

People just assume that because your travelling half the country to view a car you'll buy it because u gone so far. I went to North Yorkshire from Bournemouth on a Saturday morning to view a mk2 Astra gte advertised as good condition, it really was that bad I would have been embarrassed taking it to the scrap man. So off home we went. Suddenly that evening another "minter" popped up, again in North Yorkshire! So Sunday morning off we went again oop North. Turned out to be a stunner and the guy was a mechanic who took a "liking" to the shitty pug 106 diesel I had driven up there and knocked me ÂŁ150 off the Astra so he could use the pug as a daily driver. Didn't have the heart to tell him I was gonna ask him to scrap the pug lol

On the up side is, that is how I came across my moonstone 3dr as we saw it in the auto trader on the way back - stopped, viewed it and left a deposit

Went to the auction as I'd spent 3 months looking for a car
Bought a one lady owner fully stamped history car for a grand less than I had in my pocket as a deposit
So now I'm on the lookout for another one I'll be back to the auction again, the cheap ones have sold and the expensive ones never call back
And eBay sellers tend to get outbid at the last moment and then offered second chances as their mate has note said they can't afford it

The Clio 182 I brought blind on eBay had the wiper blade rubbers flapping off and they were so knackered they would have scratch the glass had I used them. Had a 200 mile journey and I had to do about half that journey before I could find a halfrauds to replace... Apart from the radio not working, a wheel bearing droning, the bad boy exhaust and the filthy general condition of the car, the rest of the journey was fine!

"genuine reason for sale" is really common, and pointless... as you wouldn't be selling it without a reason
"first to see will buy" - How do they know?
And when someone puts "Cat D" buried in a block of text rather than at the start of the ad
