Help is it fuel or something else?
Hi Guys wondering if u can help me here. I`ve just converted my pride an joy ford fiesta xr2 to an RS Turbo. I was previously running an XR2i engine an loom in it, and have now put in a Fiesta RS Turbo engine, gearbox, cossie map sensor, ECU , exetra.... but not the loom but have done pin change an map sensor. I have piped and wired it up, and turned it over, she seems to be idleing ok but then cut out. Started it again an took it around the block seems to be boosting fine but lots of black sooty smoke pouring out the exhaust. I have been told this could be over fueling??? I know were the pressure regulator is on the alan key do u turn it left or right to de-crease the fuel pressure if it is so?????? cheers dean
in most cases
:
turning left - decreasing fuel regulator spring tension = decrease fuel pressure
but it is really fuel pressure problem??
does cossie map sensor have the same pressure/voltage range that orginal fiesta have?

Cheers guys!! could u please tell me the pressure of the fuel?
u say there is a CO Pot? where is this located?
could i just take this to my local rolling road to get it running an set up? or does it have to be runnong first?
or would u say it could be loom problems as only have the XR2i loom an done the pin change?
Thanks dean . you`re help would be much appricated

Of course a tuner will be able to fix it, but of course, you can expect the bill to be that much higher if it doesnt run.....
The CO Pot is located on a panel on the bulkhead along with the EDIS and MAP sensor. Again not something you want to be fiddling with blind.
A 2i loom is fine, as long as you have converted it properly. The loom is 99% identical

this is wot ive don
1) At the ECU, pin no. 27 (marked on the multiplug, brown wire) needs moving to pin 8, which is empty (this is the CO adjuster signal wire).
2) Pin no. 45 (brown/yellow) needs moving to pin 27 - this is for the MAP sensor.
3) EDIS Module pin 2 (blue/yellow) may now be disregarded as it is not used by the 0FAC ECU (pin 28 on ECU).
MAP Sensor re-wire:
At the MAP sensor multiplug...
1) Move the brown wire (gnd) to cossie MAP sensor pin no. 1 (marked on multiplug).
2) Move the brown/trace* wire (feeds back to ECU on pin no. 26) to cossie MAP sensor pin no. 2
3) Move the brown/yellow wire (feeds from pin no. 27 on the ECU) to cossie MAP sensor pin no. 3
4) On one of the Cossie MAP Sensors fixing holes there is a metal ring which goes into the sensor. This ring must be earthed, and when you mount the Cossie map sensor using the right brackets, it connects to earth. (You should only ever mount the Weber/Cosworth MAP sensors with the vacuum pipe pointing downwards).
i got this info off here . c this is wot ive don i bought a escort cabb with a fiesta rs turbo in a then striped her bear .then put the engine and box into mine and plugged all the engine bay components on to the XR2i loom in my fiesta. apart from the map sensor which was different, the 1 have is an oval shaped 1. done the wiring change, tank, pump exetra....
Turned it over an all i was getting was black smoke. took her round the block, and it seems to be boostin ok, and now i have had mess with the fuel regulator and it won`t start and still won`t.
What would u recommend take it to the local set up centre or try an get her runnin before i take her????? I am clued up a bit on engines an don`t mind havin a mess an getting my hands dirty.

One thing i would say......your running a cossie MAP sensor? Do you have a chip? Im pretty sure you can't just plug a cossie MAP in.......im certain it needs a chip in order to work properly

I assume it is a cossie map sensor as i have looked at a few others an it looks the same, it`s definetly not a fiesta turbo 1 because it would have pluged in an they look identical. this 1 is round with a 3 hole bracket.
would u say now that the loom is right or thats wat the fault is??
Do u think i am better off getting a uncut fiesta turbo loom an all it`s components an knitt it into an xr2 loom???
Thanks Again Dean

Right ok. A standard OFAB map sensor is a 2 bar Marelli item, identical in every respect to a 3 bar one, the only difference being the colour and the part number.
Im pretty sure though a 3 bar can't just be plugged in and used

soz m8, didn`t get back to ya straight away just had a bab u know how it is....lol. i think the best thing 4 me to do is get some info off here to how to convert a XR2i loom and components to run the fiesta turbo engine. i`ll put a new post up.
thanks 4 all the help u`ve given me been really helpfull thanks m8..
