Default Problem with XR3i,Fuel pump cuts out when warm, please help

Hi i'm new here,I have a Mk3 xr3i and have been having problems with the fuel pump cutting out when the car is warm.It starts and runs fine but when i turn the engine off after a 10-20min run and try and start it again the fuel pump stops running. Then if i leave it a few minutes it will start again. Can anyone help please!!!!!!!

I have replaced the fuel pump, ignition module and coil.

Could it be the fuel pump relay? If so could someone please tell me where abouts it is because i dont think its in the fuse box.

thanks again

Default fuel pump cuts out

it is more yhan likely you relay and will cost around Ł20 for a new one, you will find it located behind the dash either by the passenger or drivers door and it is a violet (purple) colour however if its a mk3 and that dont work try the black module thet sits along side it it is slightly wider and thiner than the average relay if you need any more advice eithr email me or leave a message on site. Carl.

Cheers anyway, ignition module was my first thought.I'm on my 7th mk3 XR3i and 4 of them has needed one.

Another quick question: The ignition module has 3 wires from the multi plug green, black and brown. The brown earth wire is not conected to anything and is just hanging down,is it supposed to go to the distributor somewhere or was it for those distributors with a metal cover round them?

Its an 83 Y reg and its got the distributor with the black cap.I Seem to remember one of my other xr3i's having a metal cover around the cap that had an earth on it,i think it was the blue cap distributor though.

If its a black cap it should have 3 wires on the multi plug and all of them need to be connected! I thought the early cars all had blue cap

Where does this wire come from exactly? Can you get a picture?

The wire comes out of the black multi plug that go's on the amplfier module screwed to the top of dizzy.Theres the 2 green and black wires that go to the coil and the brown wire. Its about 4" long and has a white spade end on it.

Sorry couldn't get a picture.

The brown wire in the plug should definately have an earth continuity if you are running a black cap.

A WHITE spade end? Does it look factory? Has it always been disconnected?
