MKIII XR2i CVH & MkII XR2 CVH Head/Engine Compatibilty??
Hi All
Please can someone help? I have an urgent need to get my MKII XR2 Fiesta racer going again after an engine failure!
Will a MKIII XR2i CVH engine/head be ok to use with my MK11 Fiesta XR2 standard pre lean burn Weber (DTF?) carb and Ford ECU? I must retain the carb because the regulations do not allow the use of fuel injection on my car.
My blown up XR2 engine was a pre 1986 lean burn one with the true hemispherical head chambers. Can I just swap the engines over and retain my carb or are the compression ratio's or the fixing of the relevant inlet manifold different? Does it make any difference to what I plan if the XR2i engine was originally mechanically or elctronically fuel injected?
Does anyone know?
Thanks
Bob

it will not work on its own as the efi heads had cut outs for the fuel injectors, so you you will get massive air leaks from them . however you can get adaptor plates that will block off these holes, or you could "chemical metal" the gaps that are there. there may also be an issue with the injection head running a different compression to the carb head...... although i think they are similar enough, if not the same, but you are using this for racing, so i am sure performance is of the upmost importance to you
good luck anyway
