As I see correctly there is a small retard at 5500 rpm because of the det tendency of YB. But in the standard map there is no similar.

Have you got idea why? Is it most safely and not necessary?

Thanks

What do the experts think of hand held units like Bluefin, dream science and so on. I've always believed they are tacky and not very good. Has anyone, Stu maybe inspected the map and what do they think of it?

They do not plug any of this equipment into your car, but they must do so with a car of the same spec in order to reproduce and sell on, right? Am I right to assume a car with Bluefin will not be as well mapped as a car done by MSD, NMS and so on...

Benni- those devices are just programming devices. It's like offline mapping. Ultimately what you want is an aftermarket ECU with the ability to hook a laptop up and modify it in realtime with the engine running, ergo 'live mapping'. Should be called online mapping really, to compare to offline

EG:
What does a chip look like when you extrtact it from the eprom onto the pc?

How do you know what part of that load of garbage is a map?

What equiptment do ya use for monitoring fuel?

Etc Etc Etc..

I need to be led otherwise il be off on a tangent
what i'd like to know is this:

can you take a map from one ecu setup and transfer it to another one and then fiddle with it?

i remember jim asking ages ago about if there was a way to copy the map for the 24V from the ford ecu and then upload it into his emerald so that he could tweak it from there without the need to start from scratch and see all the points that he could leave well alone (not jim personally, but dave walker who was mapping for him)

and, if this is not possible, whoever develops such a system, would the become overnight millionaires?

in a word no but if you could read the 24v ecu then you could adopt some values and input them to help

Would you personally use one of these? Am I right in assuming they are not very good for getting 100% out of your engine? I guess they have their advantages. However, Dream science have many different maps within the unit. Economy, Performance, Race, Race Plus and so on. Am I wrong to assume a remap will give you all the above in one map?

Thanks, Benni.

No off-the-shelf map is 100% perfect

So for perfection a live map if the one to have? Is their a difference in a live map and a remap. You don't live map something like a TDCi Fiesta, do you? Just cars with a custom spec.

A remap is where you upload a complete calibration to an ECU - a live/online map is where you edit the particular parts of the map in realtime that need changing, for whatever reason.

IMO no live map is 100% perfect is either. Like anything really, but live mapping is MUCH better than anything off the shelf.

Here's a question on this pic of a base ignition map on an SR20. Are the values degrees +/- the base timing or is the figure you type in the overall ignition figure if that makes sense..

Yes I know its an old thread so sod off

Its actually the first time Ive seen it so I sat and read through the lot. Some very interesting stuff in here and its helped clarify and make sense of a few things.

Mapping is something that has always intrigued me and Ive always regarded it as a bit of a black art so never bothered looking into it. Now Ive had a bit of a look at it I realise that I was right and its over my head . I do understand the basics but Im certain that even with all the most advanced instrumentation and equipment in front of me Id still manage to melt an engine in 30 seconds

Hats off to the guys who can succesfully do it

Another reason Ive dug it up is that since it was started there are a lot of new users on here that may find it interesting and may be able to learn from it or bring something new to, what I personally think is, a great thread.

Id like nothing more than to buy a shitter and stick some management on it and have a go at mapping, something that if it went bang Id just take the management off and go weigh it in

Maybe there is some value in moving this over to GD again for some further discussion? I enjoy mapping discussions.

Something to bring a bit of discussion back to this thread. Direct Injection mapping, particularly the fuel tables at low loads where I know some engines inject 3 times on the inlet/compression strokes. Probably something for Stu or people who are deeply involved in DI engines, are the pulse widths the same for each injection or do they vary?
