Nice little update -

Finally I had the new gearbox fitted and a few adjustments/service items.

Along with the box going back the VibraTechnic rear engine mount has been fitted.
Seriously stiffer than the Ford one I had previously fitted.

Couple of wheel bearings replaced and then on the front have fitted abs sensor/ abs ring so I can have a speedo once again.. - the new gearkit isnt compatible with the Ford box sensor.

Next up was something ive been meaning to do for months. The front bumper has had a carbon flat splitter/undertray fitted for some time, this sits about 10inchs under the the front end/engine bay. My job next was to continue this on so as to give a flat floor set up to the front of the car. Its getting there...

My air filter has also taken a battering of late, the standard ford arch liner decided to go AWOL at SantaPod last year (pic below) and as yet have not fabricated something.

Yesterday saw this happen!..

This has then been replicated in ally and bolted securely to chasis and then when bumper is fitted it bolts to the undertray.

Inside the car a few carbon panels have been made by Raj (AUTOFLOCK) and a big thank you to him for these.

Tidys it up nicely...

Also an AP rear brake bias has been fitted as the brake set up still is not right. Will give this a go next month, if no big change then need to look at fitting a remote brake servo.

Next up was a quick weigh on the corner scales as the last time it was weighed was over 4years ago.

Car sat with fluids - 924kg (fitting glass back in seriously added some weight)

Yet still works out at over 500brake/tonne.

Pretty much ready for this year now- let the track time begin

I think you can be too worried about weight and then it becomes a hassle!..

The perspex used to rattle, leak and was an eyesore with scratches etc.

Also at high speed the windows used to wobble and with a topspeed run that the car is capable of I dont want to feel like the car is actually falling apart.. Or at least not the windows

Good to see the beast is still around Luke; still breaking new barriers with development too. Bet it goes like stink.

Decided I'd be sensible for a few years and now have bought an Audi RS4 B7 as everything is done on it (not that I don't trust myself) apart from a supercharger. Lol

May pop along to some of the track days and shows this year and hope to see the beast out and about!

I just want some good use out of now, but there is still so much that could be adapted - where do you stop though!

Nice work on extending the splitter that far back

So many people don't understand the benefits of it! It's on the list of things to do with mine at some point, but it's gone on the 'development' list and i'm still working through the 'getting it running' list at the moment

Looking forward to seeing it out again this year Lukeydora

Agreed mate, as you know though you can only work with the basic knowledge or tips on the subject. Unless the car is in a windtunnel to get the full effects/set up. BUT it should work in principal.

I have more carbon left to do the rest of the underneath but a rear diffuser would be required first to tie it all in. My biggest concern though is the exhaust system and the amount of heat. "thinking cap" is on!

Thats the one but they do a sheet 2sqm.

Yes that is an option mate, just looking into it all and seeing whats recommeded/will work. Trying to use up material I have too so it doesnt cost anymore.

Luke, if you want to know more mate, give me a shout. I've got access to some fairly serious CFD software through uni, I can do flow simulations to represent air movement under the car as well as thermal transfer from the exhaust etc.

The front has plently air going into it the issue arises at the rear with the heat build up..
this would need the naca ducts to direct some air up and out then out the back.

I have a flat floor on the 5 that goes 3/4 of the way down the car but stops just after the drivers seat so the engine is open to get air in/out.
I made it out of ally, only Ł20 a sheet for 2x1m of 1mm i think it was.
Very cool car.i used louvre vents for some thin vents, didnt know if naca vents were the best due to space.
I also used some extractor fan fittings for other vents to get as much air to the front of the engine.

Luke,
All is well. Just got back from 6 months in the Falklands, posted to a place called Wattisham near Ipswich now (near Smit) and have a few weeks off. Miss my cars so used the money I had saved up to buy the RS4, seems more of a sensible car as everything is done and I don't trust myself after last time. Lol

I hope to pop along to some of the shows and no doubt will see you there. I look forward to seeing your car tearing up the track and continue pushing the boundaries it has with development, times etc.

Catch you soon
