Well, had a phone call from Chris' wife last night and unfortunately his ill health will mean he won't be returning to work for a while. With this in mind we've agreed to make arrangements for me to collect the shell in the near future...
Back to the engine build though!
Got the valves lapped in and numbered.
Installed the valve stem seals:
Cleaned and lubed the valve stems:
Piper valve springs and steel caps:
Ferrea single groove race collets:
All built up:
Now the joy of setting valve clearances. Many hours of pleasure...
Always worrying when you do something like this:
But at least the VVT is now blanked. Maybe not permanently...
Made a start on the engine loom with an injector loom:
End result
Happy Chaos

I just re read the first couple of pages of this thread, when you seemed to be cutting bits of yourself off all the time.
And the difference in your skill from then to now is night and day
In these past almost 3 years you've learned more about this that I have in 15 years playing with cars
Either you're smart as fuck, or you've been working like a demon, you have done youself proud mate. Give yourself a pat on the back, then when you've done that get it to scotland so I can have a go

You don't mess about mate, all getting done pretty fast
Not sure if its been mentioned earlier (other than being blanked off now) , but you planning on using the VVT later on with big horses?
Quality so far

I want to see how well i can get it to perform without VVT for now.
Mapping is going to be a long process at this spec...
Once i've had some good runs out of it - i might spend a weekend unblanking the VVT and setting it up on a dyno

I decided not to knife edge the crank as i need as much structural integrity there as possible.
For balancing, nitriding and polishing my crank, my machinist charged me £50 - but i am very good mates with him

I need to get some Raychem T pieces and all kinds of stuff to do it properly.
If you can supply - PM me
Right, called in to see Mr Diva on my way home from picking all this up - so many thanks for his handy photography!

oh i did wonder as i thought it looked a bit pony
your best bet is getting the boot from farnell, as thats where i buy them from as i dont use them that often so i cant get a discount from bulk buy.
Anything else is no problem.

Luke - do you mind keeping your novelty food products away from my clean shiny engine bits...
I don't want fingerprints!
Beef - Rods and pistons were from Ian Howell - decent price and faultless service.
Compression Ratio should be low 8's - will tell you exactly later this week

Righty! Engine build piccies:
Now - remember this is my MOCK build - so things are not hygenically clean...
Ok, first off i checked all the bores to make sure they were all identical - sure enough, came back perfect
Gapped all the rings up:
Hit a slight drama when i found that my ACL race bearings had a location tang on them and my block didn't!
Resolved!
With that slight problem resolved and the oil squirters in:
Crank laid:
Now onto the rods and pistons:
Gudgeon pin in, circlips in:
With rings on:
Lubed up and in it goes lol:
Big end bearings in and rods attached to crank:
BDC:
TDC:
And a few of the head and manifolds mocked up:
Started to come together
