Default 1987 Capri project what engine?

I have a 1987 ford Capri and I have chopped and changed my ideas with the engine countless times as I'm just unsure as what to put in her I want a minimum of 200bhp I don't really have a maximum but I want it to be as simple as possible fit and also want it to look the part under the bonnet as I will be looking to show it as for a budget the maximum I'm looking to spend is £2500-£3000 all in so including gearbox fittings ect I have thought about carbing a rover v8 but I doubt think that's the best why to go about it any suggestions would be great

a simple engine conversion would be the BOA Cosworth V6 from a Granada. these drop straight onto the sub frame I believe and can either use the type 9 or a mt75 converted for the V6.

they have 200bhp as standard and with your budget could maybe get to 230bhp with standalone ecu and new plenum.

Would I need to strengthen the car anywhere? Also what diff would I need to handle the power or do you think the standard will cope with it ( sorry this is my first project)

as far as I am aware this is a very common engine that people put into a capri. I think the standard diff is normally used and I would have thought it would be fine. otherwise any sierra diff im sure would fit, again not really sure.

strength wise the car will be fine, as some capris came with a big v6 engine as standard.

there will be lots and lots of information about fitting this engine into a capri available as it has been done many, many times.

I agree the Cossie V6 from a Scorpio is a great bet for your power level. Yes you could get that out of a 4 banger Zetec or similar, but the Capri does go well with a bit of broad shouldered torque rather than revvy hp. Well trodden conversion, relatively cheap and will do spaceship mileage if looked after.

2.9 12v or 24v would be the way to go.
diff depends on what spec was originally.
ideally a 2.8 lsd rear axle would be the ticket but they are approx 800 quid now.

If injection you will need a 2.8i capri tank.

Cosworth V6 probably the easiest. If it was me, 3 litre Duratec V6 from an S Type Jag, with Getrag gearbox.

It might run but not very good it will over fuel and kill the plugs and it will proboly start putting petrol in the oil so I would not do it . Run it in on wot it had in befor then just take the grays with you when you have it mapped
