As I say...next week? Not so much work involved there is there? Receive and fit cooler = 1 day, maybe 2. Plug leads = 2 minutes, boost pot = 15 minutes? Oil change = Half an hour? Surely Pro Alloy can get you a cooler in a week? Go go go!

Shame it wasnt running full power when that ferrari came past up the M1

Heeman, i think Damo is just waiting for people to deliver the bits he has already ordered and this is whats stopping him getting back to Ahmed

LOL, you are one funny guy

Recieve and fit cooler Wednesday hopefully ... I'll be disappointed if it takes me two days

Plug leads... been waiting nearly three months so your guess is as good as mine lol, besides its NO WAY a 2 min job, you've seen where my coil pack will be

Boost pot, remove dash panel, where I HOPE I can fit it, run lom neatly and plug into Pectel loom, so yeah maybe an hour or so lol

... THEN I gotta book Ahmed, I dont have a clue what his lead time is though

Andy I know, but I could have ended up in prison and not made it to the show if plod had beeen a little further up the road, so probably just aswell

I wasn't sure if you'd need to modify the front end at all for the intercooler, sounds as though you won't. So next week it is! I thought Ahmed might be able to squeeze you in as he'd already set you up to run in, maybe not though. I'd love to see how it goes on full song I saw an F40 come up behind me on the way down, so pulled out and caught up with him but then we hit traffic. I'm sure my Fiesta would've shown him up good and proper.

Cheers for the encouragement James

Today I plummed in the air injectors... I have seen 8.5 psi held and boy does it hold!! It may have been only 8.5 and it may be because I have only had 5 or 6 for the last 1 k but boy o boy did it feel quick... VERY quick, in fact I was grinning like the preverbial cheshire cat on the way home from the test track.. oh boy bring on another 20

That's encouragement enough surely?! I've never even been in a Cossie, let alone one that boosts to an enormous 8.5 psi! Sounds as though some mental things are in store for you Mr V

LOL, Alex, no Tony copies me

OK people here we go, today I popped over to see and fit my new toy

Fortunatly I read this https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...er=asc&start=0 thread first, so set about thinking how I would "Dam" the cooler and rad.....

Anyway here ya go...

Firstly a quick pic I took before NAT day

Hmmmmmmmmnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Some welding, hard to tell the difference but its not my own ROFL

But theirs

Trip to the shops, I put this up either side of the rad where it touches the end tanks of the cooler

Gap between the bottom of rad and cooler (The picture shows my old rad, I used that to mess about how I was going to dam it)

The gap between the top of the rad and cooler

Obviously these gaps arent good as most of the airflow going through the cooler, to the rad is likely to "slip" out the large gaps at the top and bottom, as these would be the easiest routes rather than being "pushed" through the rad...

So I buggered about quickly and robbed the stores lol, came up with these

This pic shows the bottom of the rad, with my "custom" seal added, it slots onto the thin bit of metal which is part of the rad

quick mock up back in place

Sorted the top too, this one wedges between the rad and cooler

And here are the two "modified" items, can you guess what they started out as ???

Bumper off

Old cooler out

This pic shows the little adaptor things you get with the cooler, ignore all the waxoil, but its there for a reason

Its in

The seal in place at the top of the rad/cooler, didnt get it in quite right, but its a proper tight fit and wasnt coming back out lol

Couple pics of the seal at the bottom of the rad/cooler

All done

Now for the results, I drove home and ambient was 21 degrees
Initially the cooler had heatsoaked to 50 degrees, by the time I had locked up etc, but driving at 10-15mph, very quickly charge temps had come down to 35 ish, by the time i was n a dual carriageway they were down to 32 and coolant was an unusually low 82... I have never seen slow cruising coolants that low...

I did find once I pulled up at lights or traffic, coolants did raise quicker than usual, but still took a while to hit 92 then fans cut in and came straight down to 85/87....

Once I was nearly home, I took the car down my private road near my house and in third and fourth foot to the floor, charge temps were around 30 as low as 29 as high as 33, that was when I lifted off though, which is far more efficient than the old charge cooler, now before I was peaking at a regular 8.5psi, and had seen 9.2, but it rocketed to 10.8 this time, which again I can only put down to the cooler!!!! Chatters alot louder too!! coolant only went up to 85

I know I am only running baby boost, but even at this stage I have to say it does look very promising.... very nice piece of kit IMO

Andy, I like "little touches", little things people wouldnt necessarily notice if they werent pointed out .... they dont always have to cost alot, but can often take a bit of time and head scratching to implement, nice and discreet, as I said on your thread, I like your rebuild/bay too, funnily enough I said exaxctly the same, exactly how I would have it lol... I just havent got the guts to have all my tanks coated, besides I would probably only have them done silver, I dont want gold, black has been done so will just leave them and se if something else takes my fancy

Riche Russ, Get yer ass down the Kent meet mate.... your car off the road at mo isnt it?? If not this coming thursday, at brands, its a track night too!!

Looks great Damo! Lovely job It sounds as though you're going to be in for a real treat when Ahmed gets his hands on it again! There's nothing more satisfying than being able to plant your right foot on a hot sunny day and still see nice low ACTs and cool water If you decide to sell this, I order you to wait till 2007 when I could be in with a chance of buying! Remind me, what transmission are you on?

edit: I've just read backwards through most of this thread again, and I think I've found the reason for it feeling quick. 378.1 ftlb at only 2,980rpm?!?!?! Bloody hell mate, I didn't realise it was making that sort of torque, and 375bhp....and this is all pre-running in etc?! What the hell's it going to be making when it's been fully mapped?

James, yeah its been mapped on the dyno, it has a bit of running in on there beforehand, those figures are optimimum but prescise power figures, within a dyno cell, in the car you loose a little due the air temps etc, but what it means is one can compare like for like between dyno printouts, theoreticallythroughout the world as they are so uniform, unlike rolling roads, once i have been to see ahmed it will be running the aforementioned power....

Im glad you like the car its especially flattering as you have actually seen the car in the flesh

Ah ok, I thought the engine would be mapped on the dyno ready for use in the car, then mapped afterwards to make more power still. Of course, it makes sense that it would be "turned down" for running in under load etc, just me being a dumbass They're healthy figures though, I must see what that's like!

Ah mate, if I'd bothered to look more in-depth at what you'd done to the car, I would've been all OVER it at the show Only dropped in on this thread about halfway through, I hadn't even seen the bodywork and everything else you've done to it in the last six months, so I wasted a good opportunity to check out all your hard work at Silverstone. You've really shifted through it too, you've got a very very good shell under that engine!! This is precisely the kind of Cosworth I want to be able to lay my hands on. Keep it until further notice!!

Excellent work with the "extra's" on the cooler, another well thought out modifcation

The charge temps will be massively better than your std charge cooler set up imo, becuase you wont have the problem of heatsoak in the water

It's okay Lee - Damo's gonna have "Full power now, please pass" on the back soon

As always, excellent update - really liking the idea of boxing in the cooler like that - might be having to rob that idea
