yes mate, this starting issue seems to be down to lack of compression, apparently the oil pressure is holding the valves open,if you leave it 20 minutes till the pressure drops it'll fire up and run perfect.
I'm guessing an issue with the oil pump,Karl gonna check oil pressure tomorrow and discuss the next course of action.

had Karl checking the car out today and he's discovered the oil pump is shagged, pump is producing 150 psi so looks like relief valve has jammed.
engine coming out tomorrow

dead quite lol.
I've been lucky really it could have jammed open given very little or no pressure then the damage would have been worse.hes gonna check the big ends while it's out,I'm not expecting any damage but they are the originals as far as I know so might aswell change them if there's any sign of wear.

I'd be gutted if the engine let go,but then again I have a 1000mile old block sat here that's just been long studded with oil jets.
I'd just spent money on that instead, cars been off the road for six years and couple of months wouldn't hurt.

no mate,I think I've had two problems,a couple of weeks ago it woulnt start when hot, discovered the dizzy as slightly loose knocking the timing out,the the faulty oil pump was pumping up the followers holding the valves open obviously causing lack of compression.
once the pressure had dropped and closed it would fire, and of course when you're spinning it over your pumping fuel in fucking the plugs.

karl pulled the pump off today and he reckons its wrecked
good news is the oil filter done its job and karl found zero swarf in the engine.

new pump on:

karl asked if id like him to check the bearings, made sense while we were in there, very slight wear so a new set was installed

also noticed a lot of play in the wastgate so a 55 housing was banged on

block looked great when I painted it years ago but it's turned to shit now.
engines back in and running, mapping starts tomorrow.
Iwas with Karl today and basically the scored gear parts made swarf and that blocked a outlet witch then sent a 150 bar to the hydrolic lifters witch then pushes all the valves open leaving no compression at all but after a short while they return to normal loosing that pressure and cycle starts again reason for not starting was the lifters forced open by the way car looks mint well done nice one just thought I'd clear that up for you lol.....
They were were working on it Jeff I didn't really ask about what was going on I was stripping sump off my own engine lol...(as they looked very busy)to see what it needed witch was nothing......but wanted Karl's reassurance it is right
Lol..don't know what your engine spec is but my 3dr was same turbo as yours but on Karl's 500 spec motor and his map wow....it was a weapon very responsive I'm sure you will be very pleased I never rroaded mine but it held its own against 450bhp cars but didn't quite have legs to pull on them but for that turbo it was fast remember dyno figures are giudelines they don't mean much it's how a car performs on the Tarmac that proves the score

cars home now mate, really happy with the power, the front end needs sorting as the steering feels a little loose, causes the car to drift slightly, I'll check it out tomorrow.
the front wheel arch kit has started to peel off with being sat in the sun so I've text the painter to have that sorted.
got my confidence back with the car so once the kit is sorted I'm good for heaves.

Don't know about Mike but I might have a go at Croft, the front arches have started to peel from the wings so if spoke to the painter and he's gonna get me in in a week or two, tyres have caught the arches on the way up to harteside so he's sorting that aswell.
I'm going to buy some new side stripes and have him fit them aswell
got the "j" hooks to go on the front but want the bells anodised first.
then it might be ready for the show.
