Nice project mate - should be good fun when she's done
Just a thought though (and i appreciate space is an issue) the external wastegate take seem to be at a very sharp 90 degree angle, if there's any way you can angle it a little more into the gas flow you might find much better boost control

Cheers for the headsup though

Work ground to a halt at the start of the year. Basically i lost interest and started competeing around teh country freestyle kiting. Well the seasons over now and after finishing 2nd in the my debut year of the british championship i was pretty pleased.
Now im starting to get my buzz back for the car and have today taken the 2ltr out for the final time. This will be stripped for the heads, oil pan, pickup etc.
Next engine the bay sees will be the built 2.5.
Im also waiting on a set of pistons as the Wisecos supplied were mis machined.
Sh1t progress i know, but gotta start somewhere

Thanks guys. Ive got so much to do, its hard to know where to start lol.
Hopefully start getting bits stripped and cleaned up this week. I think i will feel much better once i can start assembling the 2.5motor.
Been pricing up AN fittings for fuel, oil and breather systems this week. Eeeeek theyre so damn expensive!

Well i guess id better give you guys something to look at, for those that havent died of boredom waiting for me.
On friday i picked up a set of JDM Version 8 AVCS heads. These were in good condition on the whole but very very dirty. Dirt aside i could see that they were in good shape and complete with cams, buckets and valvetrain.
So last night i started work on the LH head. This was given a basic cleanup and inspection. The RH one will be done when i next get a free moment. Once happy, i will fully strip both heads ready for some machining before being rebuilt with new seals etc.
Sorry for the phone pics, my cameras been on loan, lol.
Here they are when i picked them up.
Heres the LH head after a little jolly up.

Been to see my machinist yesterday to discuss some custom work to both my block and heads.
The block will be strengthened and the heads will have the combustion chambers altered to suit the larger 99.5mm bore of the 2.5.
I have specified the machining to give the correct cc volumes for my CR whilst maintaining good quench area.
I have also come up with an idea to prevent the common failure of the stock heads cracking. I'm not 100% sure it will all work as expected. But I've done the maths, so we shall see.
Heads have now been CC checked in stock form. If anyones interested, stock V8 JDM heads are 49cc.
They have been stripped of valvetrain. All parts have been inspected, cleaned, numbered and bagged for rebuild.
The heads had another hot wash before machining.
Taken to the machine shop this morning...
So now we wait....

Call from the machinists to say my modified block is done. Heads will be done by the end of the week.
Looks like things might actually get interesting soon. Yawn!!

Cheers Grant,
Machinist called me again today to go and have a look at the work being done to the combustion chambers on the heads. They wanted me to take a look for myself to make sure i was happy with design etc.
Happy is an understatement. Over the moon with the CNC work done so far. They should be complete by the end of the week so i'll probably collect them early next week.
Block is also finished and looks fantastic.
The excitement is starting to build.

Fresh from the machinist. The heads and block need dressing and stoning in a couple of areas before washing.
The keen amongst you will see what ive done.

Quick update on this.
Late change to spec includes a swap to Lateral long Crower H beam billet rods and Lateral custom wiseco pistons to suit.
The pistons are ever so slightly larger than the last set so the block has gone to be index honed to suit. I should get it back next week. The pistons/rods bearings have all been measured, checked and weighed. Now the complete rotating assembly only differs by 0.6grams.

Block now index honed for clearance to suit the new Wiseco buckets. This needs another measure, inspection and wash before she goes together.
Some snaps of the new internals if youre interested.
Build should be underway next week.

Lol, look what arrived this morning. How frustrating now i cant do anything with them. Grrrr
Still, they look pretty, Supertech Racing one piece valves.
Stainless intakes with nitride coating and Inconel exhausts.

Valves/seats have now been leak tested and are ready to assemble. As soon as im fixed up and back at work, these will be washed, re-inspected and assembled.
really pleased with the way the heads are shaping up now. Lets hope they do the business once shes all built

Almost Speechless, i had one of theese prodrives about 5 years ago and thought it was ridiculous in standard form ,this one must just be undescribeable ,I keep going back to look at that pic with the front bumper removed and that intercooler proudly on display

So then, what else you gonna do when youre stuck home with a f'ked shoulder and cracked ribs?
Port + polish your heads
Bored today so armed with porting tool, carbide burrs, sanding drums, brass wheels, mops and soap i set about cleaning up my ports.
Actual port shape has been largely uninterfered with but all 99% of all casting imperfections and flashing have been smoothed. Also smoothed in the roof angles towards the valves slightly and cleaned up the dogleg area in the exhaust ports.
The intakes have been finished in 80 grit by hand and have a nice smooth key. The exhausts have been polished to almost mirror. Really hard to photograph, especially with a phone, but here you go.
Just a light lap left to do of the valves before a final cc check, wash and assembly.

Valves all given a light lap today. Very light with only fine grit paste just to ensure the seats were 100%.
Took it slow as my shoulder was killing, but i had sod all else to do. lol
Just wash, assemble and final cc to go
Really hope these heads work as ive spent quite a bit of time on them now.
