Default Turbo Nova thread

A good friend of mine has recently started to build his nova turbo back up, the old spec was a stockish engine with a hybrid turbo which was approx 300hp, he used 100 shot of gas on the strip and ran a 11.9@124mph on 888's, that was a few years ago now and the car has taken a backseat whilst he enjoys his GTR but the GTR is now parked up and progress has been quite good on the nova so far.

I'll just post up a spec list and let the pics do the rest of the talking.

C20XE engine block with under piston cooling fitted
86.5mm Wiseco pistons
Saenz steel rods
Cometic 1.9mm gasket
Pace dry sump kit
ARP head studs
ARP flywheel bolts
Ported Coscast cylinder head with +1mm valves,
QED double valve springs
Steel retainers
QED solid lifters
Custom ground Piper camshafts
SBD vernier pulleys
Custom inlet manifold with 75mm TB and Wizards of Nos nitrous setup
Nortech exhaust manifold
GT3071
750cc RC injectors
Emerald ecu, Car Looms Uk loom
MSD Zetec coil
Tial blow off valve
F28 with Quaife LSD
Helix 6 paddle clutch
Equal length shafts
Power Steering

This is how the car was last time round :

Trial fitting a few things NO ROOM

With the engine out the bay needing painting to match the rest of the car:

Now that was done with it was time to start building the engine :

Once that was built and in we waited for the inlet to come back from being welded together :

And it fitted.....just

Then we had to tap the nitrous side of things in :

And finally onto tonight where we finally got the suspension back on and tried out the wide steelies for the slicks

More updates next week

Gav is nuts!

Most people buy a gtr and fuck the nova off, he just decides to make it quicker than the gtr!

Tyres came through Hauser Racing and I have a mate who does the steelies, they were made using 2 x 6.5J cav steels and thats the minimum size required to get that width.

Drop me a Pm and I'll go through some prices if your interested mate.

No not cheap but its what you need to run the numbers so worth every penny. Its still going to be mega fast on road legal tread but the all the fwd stuff in the 10's are using these tyres so no reason why he shouldn't

That shonky green thing we had was quicker than his GTR to over 100mph OFF gas you can't imagine what it was like on it

GTR though is a awesome piece of kit and he will keep it as its such a nice car to drive, and tbh its not really that shy

No idea mate, fitment issues I believe. There is next to no room in there for the dry sump pump plumbing as it is so christ knows where the intake hose would go if it was 4"

Thanks for the other replies

2.25" to be precise LOL as jongirl said its just room and I was not aware that the 4" inlet made a significant increase in power over the 2.25" ?

Thanks for all nice replys guys its going to be fruity once finished i hope. Friend of mine ran my slicks in today for me on his Tigra and ran 11.4 @ 131 not shy.

It'l be a 3 inch inlet i.e need a 3 inch filter. 2.25 exit.

The 4 inch in my finding's made them a fair bit better.

You'd probably have to have some funky angle to make it clear on your car, Very tight the nova's.

Good run for the Tigra, do you know his 8th mile speed and time?

Well behind with my thread!

Hope you all liked the car last weekend...

Few bits done since then, picked up all the exhaust bends from Nortech on the way home last Sunday and tacked the downpipe up. Just waiting for the 1.2 m centre box and 3 " flexi pipe to turn up with the flanges and the system will be done.

Throttle body turned up from the states and its the right one this time msl: , mounted the ECU and cut all the Emerald loom to size and mounted everything and now the loom has gone to be made. Roose hoses turned up

All of the aeroquip lines are now made up and removed for cleaning before final fit, glad that ones done

Cav shifter modded and fitted and I am really pleased how much better it feels a great mod :thumb:

Started to make the centre console up to house all the new instruments and conceal oil lines, fuel lines, power steering lines and extinguisher lines, not 100% on the shape but it will follow the contour of the front all the way back to the bulkhead and be flocked with the new dash top and front. should look cool I think but never does in the making
First removed all the old gauge holders

Ordered the EGT 4 channel logger screen and probes, oil pressure and temp logger screen and pressure/temp senders. All the Samco, joiners and Mikolor clamps, Varley redtop battery and box, aero catch bonnet pins,Lifeline 4ltr Plumbed in Fire Extinguisher electric type and got my KS3 knock box through which is a very nice piece of kit. Need to order my header tank and get an extra fitting welded on for turbo return
Thats all my VAT return money gone now msl: broke again but think im nearly there apart from electrical bits/switches/relays and isolators which I am about to order in a minute.

Bottom pulley is nearly there.... the first one was too big and fouled the oil gallery inlet. second one cleared oil gallery but has wrong centre bore so thats gone for machining. Barry will put the pictures up when i do the bracket for you.

I hope to get all the plumbing... boost and water done this week and the exhaust made up and start on the nitrous set up, I LIKE !

Updates soon.

Its from Pace, and yes it is a nice bit of kit, going to have one of them and a dry sump tank from them for my own car as the quality is top notch and the prices were good.

Its not using the Innovate gear, its a 4 channel display from a aviation company, the also has the Oil pressure/temp unit off them too which looks to be a nice piece of kit.
