Well today we were hoping to get the rad/intercooler/prop/diff mounted up, plumb the ancillaries in, tidy up the opening in the floor where the new gearstick is and do a bit more wiring, and possibly get the brakes on.
First off, Ians made a bracket to mount the box on, that all went together sweet,

then it all went tits up.
The rad fits snugly, but the intercooler was miles out. Ended up having to chop 2" off the front slam panel to get it to fit Hopefully, we can either re-make the cooler mounts and/or modify the intercooler (a Forge RS500 intercooler)

afer getting pretty fucked off about having to do that, the diff went up. All 4 holes for the diff mount were nearly an inch out. So we need to cut/modify/re-weld the Grp A Diff mount.
And then the 'piece de resistance'
Come to fit the prop, after Ian being a spoon and trying to bolt the donut on upside down, we got that mounted, only to find that there's a 3" thick piece of structural floor cross member in the way of it

That part of the floor needs to be cut level to the two holes.

So progress has now halted temporarily while we chop, plate, weld and re-paint the underside of the car.
Oh, and the steering column mount needs moving an inch to the right as the wheel is offset to the left

But hey, at least the rear discs got fitted

Got the clutch plumbed in too, and its looks spot on, feel nice through the pedal too

Glad I missed most of the day doing foreigners

I would be very very fucked off having to make all those alterations to a freshly painted shell. Should it all not have been a straight fit?

Surely when you pay good money to someone to convert a Focus shell for use with Cosworth running gear - you expect them to do just that!! Especially when they've done the conversion before!!

I'd be getting on the blower to said company and asking them what the crack is!!

Could it possibly be that the engine/gearbox needs to be mounted slightly lower perhaps??

Having said that its all coming together nicely mate - might try & pop down for a nosey one weekend!!

im sure they put the car on a jig and weld it all up so unless the jig is out wheres the problem? Unless it is garanteed to run standard running gear like intercooler etc. Is the gear box and all them bits standard or they slightly different items.

If the diff mount holes are an inch out i would be questionng the squarness of the whole car.

If i where you i'd flip the car on its side again and take some diagonal measurements between two major points eg front crossmember bolt and rear beam mount and check that opposite diagonals match.

Already checked that out Doug, its dead straight so thats no worry, just the bolt holes were about 25-30mm too far back, but we are using an aftermarket diff hanger so it may be that (although it came off my old saff?)
The offending cross member is being chopped out this week and plated up, so the prop should be mounted and the car might move under its own steam at the weekend!!!!!

Is that nuts with a scottish accent?
Tbh mate the holes on the floor may be blob on and our beam might be slightly out, but no matter its all sorted nowIs just the prop tunnel thats concerning us really. Do we just need to chop out the bit in the way, or should anything need re-mounting?
Saw a few Focus's in your write up in Pf a while ago, only just dawned on me that all of them have the slam panels chopped out I'd be dangerous if I used my brain!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats the bit that needs chopping out, its getting done on Saturday, so full steam ahead them
Shouldn't affect the rigidity of the shell at all due to the extra bracing thats already there with the cage and diff mount.
