Done a bit more running in, the engine sounds so smooth and revs upto 5k with out even trying. Can wait to get 2 bar+ boost then stick in the Nos.
So far so good.
Still not calculated potenshal top speed! But Getrag box seems tall.

Is it a standard ST170 box? If so there very tall, i'd imagine plenty tall enough for good top speed runs.

Well I was looking forward to my first visit to TOTB and in a way I did!
Set of on Saturday afternoon in my ERST and joined up with some local friends for the jurney down to york. The motorway was nice and quite and on one section I gave it some stick and recorded a speed of 172mph! on the GPS and I wasnt even using full throttle. Anyways got to York Saturday evening.
At TOTB on Sunday I got my first go on the Handling course but the temp was rapidly increasing as I went round! back in the pits added some water and set off for my first go on the quarter mile using the first run to check the nos, half way up the header tank relief cap blew. The reason been a blown head gasket caused by a almost new thermostat sticking closed!!
So my TOTB consisted of 1 lap of the handling course and half a go at the quarter mile.
There was much interest in the old Ford and was constantly asked to show people what was underf the bonnet, so quite enjoyed the day.

I saw the car at TOTB and noticed you had a electrical water pump, my friend said to me he has one fitted and you have to remove the thermostat with these pumps, do you have a control for the pump? Must be the reason it ran so hot

Fast Ford snapper
Shite that such small part of the jigsaw put it out of action
The motorway run sounds well impressive though! Looks like those bumper aero mods really do work!

The way I plummed it up for TOTB was standard ST thermo with 2 3mm holes drilled in it and a smallish bypass system (to allow bleeding) with no heater circuit.
Just never thought that the thermo would stick closed, confimed this by boiling it in a pan in the kitchen.

Had the misfortune of downshifting into 2nd gear at 90mph and the exhaust cam slipped round in its pully and bent all 8 exhaust valves
I currently have comitments to other peoples cars so its going to be a few weeks before I have any time to put my car right.

Hopefully you'll be at the Ford day at Crail in september?
Will come over and say hello if you're there. I have a new project now, so hopefully will either be there having a bit of fun on the 1/4 mile or more likely, asking a million questions

Currently I have imposed a 5200 RPM rev limit, due to the fact I have been getting valve bounce and tipping the valves.
Everything has been running good. I have been to Knockhil Hill today (not to go on the track) and on the way back took this video/sound clip.
I am running 20psi of boost but the engine is just coming on cam when the rev limiter cuts in!
The new valve springs are due next week.
