Turboed ST170, 6 speed ERST now ZVH & GT30.......RIP.
I undertook a rebuild of my ERST at the begining of this year 2007.
I wanted to turn my ERST into a very quick car and as mentioned by several members you get board with 350+bhp!
The plan has been ever changing.
I decided to build an engine with 500ish bhp and then using a wizard of nos kit add upto another 100bhp.
Well here are some pics of the build so far. Everything is almost finished but I have not done any tidying up yet so it is in a "in work" state.
The block is my old Zetec block from the last build although it is only 8 months old, purchased from Ford. The crank has been lightned, balanced and Nitrided. I have WRC rods and my own spec of pistons to suite the cam. I am also using a resin head gasket.
I am fitting a side exit exhaust all 3inch pipe work and a Jamsport exhaust manifold. I will be using my external wastegate with a K26 turbo (not up to the full 500bhp but will be a starting point) and then changing to a Turbonetics T62.
The head is a ST170 casting which currently is away been flowed, having larger valves fitted.
Newman cams are currently reworking the cams, springs and followers.
I am fitting Gotech Pro-X which has anti lag, boost control and will control the VCT in the ST head. Since changed to Pectel T2.
I have fitted a Max Extreame nos controller to control the 100bhp hit of nos and it does my shift lights too. I am using direct port nos controlled by 2 nos solonids and a 11lbs bottle with heater.
The gearbox instal has been completed but taken out again. It consists of a new mount welded onto the inner wing and a torque reaction mount under the floor. The cable change mechanism was easy to fit.
The shaft are spec made by Dave Mac propshafts.
The box has been rebuilt to include a Quiafe LSD.
I have made my own inlet manifold which is a very heavly ported Rover lower part with my own plenum design. I have constructed the plenum but waiting for my new Tig welder to turn up so I can stick it all together.
All boost pipe work has been uprated to 3inch and fitted a 80mm thick intercooler
The gearbox install has ment that the servo has had to be ditched and a new pedal box has had to be installed (what a bitch that was!)

I have done my swotting up and a 3 inch short exhaust (side exit) will be up to the job. But my K26 wont be.
It's not looking good for Crail running out of time.

Thanks for all your kind words.
Todays progress is as follows-
Welded up the base of the plenum, which ment that I could bolt the trumpets in for good and tap and drill the base for fitment to the inlet runners.
I also modified the Willwood dics to fit under the 15 inch alloy. I am down grading my 16 inch OZ ultraleggeras for 15 as they offer a better choise of rubber.
The calipers and disc just fit under!!!

Awesome!
Nice to see people thinking outside the box on the old RSTs.
With a bigger turbo it'll be a smoke machine! I hope you're good mates with whoever you buy your tyres from
Keep us updated

I am trying very hard not to distroy any of its origonality or at least be able to reinstate it.
I have all the recipts for the car since 1999 in a massive folder.

Dont convert the head for the shorter plugs or you will run into a waterway
There are plenty of plugs available now for the Focus RS
Denso ITV30 are an NGK 9 equivalent
Just saved you a head

Simon, what a stunning project, but I have to ask, WHY??!!
Mine is an absolute fucking animal at 350bhp and clearly way beyond the capability of the chassis. It is a killing machine, so 200-300bhp more??!!
Regardless of that, good luck, can't wait to see the results.

Not exactly sure myself!
I think I want to see how far my knowledge and ability will take me, and I enjoy making things.

I have a preferance for the MK4 Escort over the Sierra.
My dad and I have a K reg cossie that we have owned from new, so I know what they are like (supurb), but on the modifing front you can buy all the kit to make the cossie into an animal and it has been done many times before - respect to all modified cossies.
I wanted to do something that was a challange!
Again thanks for all your encouragement.

I wish I was back mate. But I'm liviing in Heswall in merseyside while I'm doing a major re-fit of the RFA Diligence.
I'm almost sure I'm coming back to the oval after this last 6 months in a German barge
Could be S2 number 10 for me At least I'm consistent.
Hows the business coming along? Intrested in a bit of work on whatever I end up with?

Rab, I am always interested in helping!
For my new 15inch alloys I was going to get the same Ultraleggeras because they are so light. Unless I can find some lighter forged ones without blowing the hole budget!
I remember when I fitted the 16inchers to my car, and I could really feel the differance in the response in the steering.
