To be honest its not as bad as I thought it could be, I was expecting what I found so it came as no surprise.

I still don't think its too bad as it is an 88 (15 years old!!), the car has actually already been welded from the underside at all these points so it is pretty solid but I wanna get rid of it once and for all to make it mint

I've got a good friend whos extremely handy with a welder so i'll get him to bash in a full floor pan, i'll then paint it inside and underneath

I know whats its like under there as i've got the inside quarter panels out, and I know its not the best.

Just wack some new arches on there probably, thats the advantage of having a mate as a welder

Hi John,

Good to see your still working hard on the old beast. You getting Mik to do the welding for ya?

Make the most of the parts from Danny's car, you may as well!

Can't wait to see it next time I pop up your way, should be really nice. You can give me tips on doing mine too

See ya soon, MIKE

Yeah Micks doing all the welding on it, all the suspension/ lines + fuel tank are off now but I'm back in Bristol so it'll be a couple of months till anything else gets done (I'll be collecting parts as I go on).

Got a few bits of Dannies car I thought about getting another RST but the thing is 80% of them are similar to mine anyway when you have a real good look at them so if I restore it now and do it properly it'll be quality for a good few years

Speak soon m8, John.

The welders been over to see it and we've decided on replacing the following:

Inner and outer rear arches on both sides

All the floor pan sections

Rear Panel

Inner and outer sills on both sides

Some of these areas can be repaired but I feel I would rather replace them with new metal

John,

Yours is looking similar to mine, I have started sorting mine now, had it stripped within 2 nights

https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...394&highlight=

It seems mine has gone where yours has on the floor, but mine is good at the front end, your arches seem better than mine, but top stuff getting em replaced!

I have now ordered all my bits, keeps us updated with your's and i will mine, hope to be done for the summer!

The boot floor isn't as bad as it seems and is very solid, it should clean up no problem but we'll see.

Getting there John! Gotta cut the old floor out tonight and get it all prepped for the new panels, I'm hoping to get it all prepped in primer ready for early march so I can concentrate on the engine swap out then.

John, keep it up mate, I disagree with the above comments, if its all replaced and there is no more rust, it's not gunna go again is it! Don't worry, you will be the one laughing when it is finished and not a bit of rust on the car!

Danny's comments were pretty harsh, and agree with your reply on finding rust!

Hi John,

So you got Mick poppin over yours next week then. Nice one

Where are you gettin your floor panels from?

I took my car to Karl Norris on friday. Runs like a dream mate
There were a couple of problems:
There was no air filter
One of the injector clips was missing
Needs new HT Leads.
Karl took me down to Halfords in his 205 (that cars well impressive) to get my new air filter. He had some injector clips so thats all sorted.
Also its got a hybrid turbo with a 50 trim compressor which is in really good condition. Quote from Karl: 'I'm really pleased with that, thats one of the fastest RS Turbo's I've had for a long time given the mods'

It is really torquey for a CVH lump. Karl recons its pushin close to 200lbft of torque, thats at 15psi. Only trouble is, theirs a little bit of clutch slip sometimes when on full boost and the clutch is pritty much brand new some I will have to get an uprated one when it goes. I'll probably fit a S2 fly wheel while I'm at it.

Make sure you get some pics up soon when Mick makes a start on the welding. See you soon mate, MIKE

Glad to hear its finaly going well for you with a Series 1 . Now hurry up and sort out some pics of this new beast, i'm looking forward to seeing it

What clutch is it running?? Thats something I have to replace as on mine before it comes back on the road. I slips all the way down 3rd in the dry if you give it beans and in 5th no matter how gently you load it up it slips at about 12psi

Quote from Karl: 'I'm really pleased with that, thats one of the fastest RS Turbo's I've had for a long time given the mods'

I'll race ya We'll be leaving Danny Boy behind

Any luck selling the old one?

C ya
