I was always under the asumption that a sleeper was a stock looking base model car with big power??
seems to be alot of just plain modified cars being posted up. I think once you have intercoolers poking out, a set of alloys, roll cage and bonnet pins etc it becomes obvious its not a sleeper. Which kind of defies the point?!?

Something semi quick (like my mates astra i posted) that actually has supercar bashing performance is still sort of a sleeper to me.

See I dont think it works like that. Like an escort cosworth, not a blisteringly fast car as standard, but then you are never surprised to see one going like stink. If its a sport of performance model to begin with your are never as surprised to see it moving quickly, esspecially if its a popular car on the moding scene.

But, lets say an Almera GTi with a pulsar engine i wouldnt expect, so id class that as a bit of a sleeper.

i see what your saying in your points but then think of the black xr2, if you dont know much about fords you wouldnt ever think it has efi turbo running gear under there till you heard the flutter lol, would be better without the bonnet raisers and on standard peppers tho, the astra is a good example too, standard looking gsi which are ok as standard then 200bhp of c20let powering it, not somthing you would expect. i have a xr3i atm, dropped on turbo rims but standard otherwise with 190bhp of turbo running gear, most dont expect it at all, just the exhaust sound and front mount just poking through are the only clues, then nothing a tin of black paint wont sort, not as unassuming as my estate was but still get the same effect, so most cars could be considered sleepers, just the big ones that everyone knows are quick cant get away with it.
This would be an awsome sleeper http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2113780.htm

Gotta agree, that was a really nice build. But wanted some silly money for it when it went for sale. Hope its still going
In regards to what sleepers should look like, I agree they should be pretty much stock, not even performance model looking i.e. RS body panels, sport etc.
Mine probably isn't regarded as a sleeper because of the wheels and visible diff in the back, but who really cares?! Just as long as it doesn't look like a rally car, it should pass as a sleeper.
F*ck it, I'm off back to the pub

that sierra estate is the best looking sleeper on the thread
a sleeper is either a car that looks like a completely nail but goes like fuck or a tidy looking standard car that goes like fuck
that means no body mods, everything standard on the outside, say bar a set of wheels, but best sleepers are best left with std wheels that they come on from factory
another sort of sleeper is something that looks like nice but isnt expected to go very fast, but i wouldnt class these as true sleepers

1/4 mile beasty!!!!
I'd class my fiesta as a true sleeper heard some guy say at a rwyb a few months back look at that old piece of shit there soon changed his tune when it ran a high 12 1/4 mile there's nt much that gives it away really the bonnet sits a bit raised at the back but only to clear the boost pipes!

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Cheers for the kind comments towards mine! Bonnet raiser has been removed since those pics, would love to put it back on pepper pots but they wont fit over the breaks unfortunately. Might go back to xr2 calipers eventually tho.
