"some insurance" does not exist. If the vehicle modifications have not been declared and the vehicle is effectively not road legal (including the dvla declaration) then no. The insurance wont be worth the paper its written on.
Im very sorry that my attitude towards cars being legal on the roads, and yes that includes the wholly uninsured too, makes me a "boring cunt".
If you are happy that people are driving round in vehicles which may be very professionally modified and perfectly safe, yet totally uninsured, then I assure you there is only one "cunt" in this thread.
Lets just hope nobody gets hurt or injured by one of these cars eh, as Im sure the insurance company and the police will share your view and let them off/pay out becuase its just "saving a few quid on the tax innit"?
Ill leave the thread now as my contributions are clearly off topic and not related to the discussion of sleepers what so ever.

Oh its not a road car. Right. Thats why its on askmid and taxed then? Id also be very interested to see the wording of a traders policy that allows cars to be driven that have undeclared engine size changes. No worries though, Ill just believe you.
I guess you must cover all the others here that havent bothered updating the dvla either.
It still amazes me that this goes on today, where people will just shoehorn another engine in a car, and as long as they report it to the insurers (hopefully they at least do that), they think its legal.

i never said anything about having no insurance being right did i ? na i said i dont like nosey people butting in on things that have nothing to do with them, its a bit sad writing in peoples reg numbers on dvla website to see what engine size there car is, and insurance premiums going up are mainley because every person who has a little knock in a car makes a whiplash clam, then theres taxi drivers everywhere with stickers on there cabs saying make a claim, its all them sort of people who are killing premiums.

I'm building a 2.0l zetec powered Orion that is just away being wired now. I've kept it standard looking bar some slightly larger OEM wheels and a bit of lowering. Plan is to supercharge it and run around 200bhp. Moderate I know, but it weighs roughly 963kg and should be enough to irritate a few 318i drivers...

Some very nice cars in this thread, but some people are taking the sleeper thing to seriously. I know half of them have intercoolers on display, different wheels and lowered ride heights as I (and everyone else here) are car enthusiasts who know about modified cars, the average man in the street isn't going to know a mk2 fiesta isn't meant to have escort gti wheels, so I reckon most cars in here are pretty good sleepers.

actually working in the insurance industry i can safely say that is the main reason for insurance premiums rising so sharply over the years then its young (under 21) and older (55+) having accidents, then its arson believe it or not.

when i wrote of my cossie powered toyota celica it was all declared to the insurance company but not the dvla. it made no difference to the payout. i still received it all no problem and not 1 person from the police to the insurance assessor even mentioned never mind queary it.
the only external/visible mod to my bmw estate was the alloy wheels, everything else was standard manufacturer fitted so id class my old estate as a sleeper as no one would expect an old bmw estate to have 330bhp.
the flames popping from the exhaust and the hiss of the dump valve could maybe give the game away though.
after i added the 'powered by ford cosworth' vinyl graphic along the top of the rear screen more than 1 person approached me at petrol stations/car parks etc and commented that they thought it was a joke.
