Some really cool cars on this thread I must say ![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
Amusing though, how you all dig into this Fred chap, when his points are totally valid. The fact it doesn't say turbo on the log book is irrelevant. If the car is registered as a 1.3 by the DVLA, yet is a 1.6, regardless of turbo or not, it's registered wrong, and you are driving without a valid tax disk, and therefore without valid insurance, as most insurance policies will dictate that a car must be showing a valid tax disk...valid being the key word there.
Yes, perhaps the point being made hasn't added anything to the thread, and it might be a pain in the arse getting the DVLA to sort it out for you, but I'd sooner go through some hassle there than get in bother for driving without tax/insurance, or have the fun of being told you're not insured if you accidently crash into a brand new Merc, then getting to go to court for the money.
No doubt I'll be labelled with Fred Elliott, but oh well, don't really think you can call someone a cunt for giving truthful information to be honest, no matter how much you don't like the cut of it

Mates astra GSi, not a major sleeper as its a sporty model anyway, and the cooler kind of gives it away a little, but from behind its unasuming enough.....

Even if its not a proper sleeper, most people dont expect it to have 380 bhp and be capable of 12 second 1/4's!
Only pic i have of my mates old Corsa C turbo (that was around 2002, one of, if not THE first one to have a turbo in) running eds 3.5, 300ish bhp, standard looking SRi, very sleeperish back when it was built!

personally, as soon as i converted my car i sent my logbook off with the engine cc and engine numbers changed. but i still stand by my opnion that the dvla system is fundamentally flawed. anybody who hasnt registered the engine swap n then has issues with the plod, albeit a crash or simply a stop check, can just use the old 'iv sent the logbook off and im waiting for it to be sorted...'. i had to do this for like 3 months as the DVLA could not be arsed to do the logbook changes right. if i send it off with the changes, and shout til im blue in the face and throw cash at them, its still up to them to sort.
i got several producers during this time period, and i openly admitted to the conversion and explained the situation, and in the eyes of the law i had done eveything possible.
so the DVLA made this obvious loophole, i wont judge any1 for using it

In regards to the DVLA and insurance.
Its very simple, even a monkey can set it all up. You simply inform the DVLA of the change of capacity, most likely an engineers report is needed, but not always.
Inform your insurance of the changes, declare everything and it'll coincide with the engine number you supplied the DVLA.

Headwork, evo tubular manifold and turbo (cant remember what it is off the top of my head, off one of the FQ's, twin scroll thing) forged pistons, stud and nut kit, vxr injectors, phas e4 chip, apexi avc-r running it at 1.7 bar of boost, big cooler with 3" pipe work ETC.
RR figure was 371 with a cracked exhaust manifold.
It threw a rod not so long ago, so now its having a new lump built with rods, pistons, lightened balanced and another head with more work, management and a gt30 is the plan too.
this is with the old kkk, so a lot less power

"some insurance" does not exist. If the vehicle modifications have not been declared and the vehicle is effectively not road legal (including the dvla declaration) then no. The insurance wont be worth the paper its written on.
Im very sorry that my attitude towards cars being legal on the roads, and yes that includes the wholly uninsured too, makes me a "boring cunt".
If you are happy that people are driving round in vehicles which may be very professionally modified and perfectly safe, yet totally uninsured, then I assure you there is only one "cunt" in this thread.
Lets just hope nobody gets hurt or injured by one of these cars eh, as Im sure the insurance company and the police will share your view and let them off/pay out becuase its just "saving a few quid on the tax innit"?
Ill leave the thread now as my contributions are clearly off topic and not related to the discussion of sleepers what so ever.

since when is having no tax make your insurance invalid, if your car has been sitting tucked up for say 2 years, its insured but has no rent or ticket on it and you have to drive it to a mot station, your saying that cause it has no tax your driving with no insurance to the mot station. None of any of my insurance papers have said that??? Dont get me wrong though the points are valid but most people do insure them as turbos/zetec etc........ its a minority that keep them under the original details. Though one of my old nova's was registered with the dvla as a 1.8 but still showed on the insurnace's systems as a 1.3sr, another of my cars came up as a cavalier 4x4 turbo when it was just a sri, sometimes no matter what you do its still wrong

as long as youhave done the paperwork then that's fine and dandy ebcause you will have proof of it being done, if the dvla monekys fuck it up then that's not your fault is it

Thats what im planning for mine, though ZLET instead of the CLET. For the money it costs to convert its great! Theres some newer videos on youtube of z20let corsas:

If you want someone to supply and fit a standard ZLET its about 3.5k (this is priced from corsa-c forum guys, who have done a lot of these conversions and can knock them out in 2/3 days - in fact, its the two guys in the videos i posted above)
If you want the likes of Regal, Courtenay etc to do it your talking 5-6k
Me on the other hand, will be doing it myself/with help. Fitting the engine is simple using OEM vaux mounts from different cars. Its the wiring thats the hard part, but it is provided from the corsa-c guys FOC! I will most likely buy a rotten/scrap astra GSi or astra coupe zlet for about Ł1800-2k and steal all the bits off it. Whilst doing it ill replace timing belt, water pump etc and add a few upgrades (crossover removal pipe, vxr injectors, vxr turbo) which will maybe put me back up to the Ł3.5k, but itll be better spec'd and Ill know its had a good going over before its in.
Astra GSi brakes & rear disc beam has cost me Ł500 so far, KW coilovers are gonna cost me Ł800, then ill start buying the mounts so its all ready when i buy an engine.
Im spending a bit more than i need to, but its because Ill prob keep it a while and wanna know its done right. I think you could knock a ZLET in a corsa c for Ł2500 if you wanted to. Though its maybe cheaper just buying one, seen a few for Ł3-3.5k the past few months!
Oh, and as for mapping, Thorney Motorsport do the different stages depending on your spec. Ill be using the Z20LET ecu. Dont know what the F23 box can handle power wise, but its only 100bhp up on standard at 300bhp.

In regards to what Fred Elliot has said....he's right at the end of the day. But hasn't been very diplomatic about it
![LOL](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
To do things "right", DVLA need to be informed of the engine change along with the relevent block number and capacity. Then the insurance should be informed of the same info, which also entails any ancilliaries that come with that engine.
The more standard parts come with the engine, the cheaper it will be, but not always. Its the insurance company's preference of how they want to state it on the paper work.
MOT time comes around, the emissions will be tested according to what info comes from the DVLA.

i think he means love!as shit as novas are theres nothing ford you could build for the same money and get the same results,156 bhp redtop running gear is about Ł350-400 all in,shafts Ł80,brakes Ł50,car,well i paid Ł350 for the a reg saloon with 36k on the clock 7 years ago, suspension Ł200.wheels were about Ł80 so for Ł1100 i had something that was mega reliable, unassuming and gave big smiles all day long, think i paid Ł1200 for the v6 and had it for a year, didnt cost me a penny and sold it for the same.its actually still on the go with the same engine, looks well scruffy now but that adds to the sleeper image!
