1991 Renault 5 GT Turbo 230bhp/213lb/ft (service/engine overhaul 10/04/2014)

how far off is the midget from being done fella? would love to see some pics etc of it.
one thing i can say is the oe manifold isnt restrictive at all really as i know guys running 246/262 and 280+ on the oe manifold.
im actually looking forward to this years progress especially with the mappable ignition going on there as the standard aei unit is pants on anything but standard boost/turbo

I have the cooling system and fuel system to finish off to actually make it run. I have fitted an intercooler behind the grill identical to the one you were initially going to fit. Inlet and exhaust manifolds are done, as is the stainless exhaust. Strangely an MGB Clutch plate is the right size and fits the Ford splines, but needs a paddle clutch like you have to cope with serious power upgrades. The last time I had it on the rolling road in the 11 it produced 179 Bhp at the wheels which the operator said was around 204Bhp at the flywheel. That was in 1997.
I'm interested to see the result of the mapped ignition. I was initially only going to use the Emerald for the fueling, but guess it would make sense to do the ignition as well.
I have some pics in my profile which show the throttle bodies and manifolds.

i cant stress enough how important it is to do the ignition as well, iv seen results of a few other people running megajolt and the torque gains especially between 2-4k are very impressive.

Off to work on the car again next saturday we shouldnt be to far away from it going to the paintshop

cheers paul , think its great that you are restoring the raider it seems like more people are biting the bullet and restoring what they have than just reshelling or breaking for parts.
#692
thanks alot fella should be interesting to see how it develops
was you cossie 5 yellow by any chance? im now back on the rtoc committee trying to give it a kick up the arse lol

another morning working on the car yesterday, really starting come together now, put the new sound proofing in the car underlay ftw very light and looks really neat tbh.
i also then painted the handbrake lever and the pedals as they were a bit tired, got some new rubber pedal covers on order from mike to go on.
We were going to re fit the carpet and start putting some of the interior back in but i took the carpet home to wet vac it and my god was it filthy done it twice it was that bad.
My mate also has his r5gtt up at gt motorsport and is having a big engine build done hoping for similar power to what i have, he took a quick pic yesterday of the 2 together (rare sight nowadays)

saying that the red one that is in with mine is totally solid underneath got 2 tiny bits of welding that has been done at some point.

When do you think you will have it up and running? You need to do a vid like the tne one lol
Off topic what do you think to a stripped out clio 172 with 300-350bhp for track use? I use to run in a sprint series and looking to do a cheaper car than my old Evo 8 and have fun.

Nah it's a Mitsubishi lancer ( Mlr) and Scooby (22b.com) sprint event but if I do the clio I would be in the guest class but just going for the laugh rather than get a trophy.
Chips mk1 clio with Honda engine looks crazy, the biggest issue I'll have is wiring and remap so think if I can build the car then see who I can help out with wiring in a ecu and that.

The black one running 700bhp. As for that yellow one you said about I remember ages ago one on here I think running a Cossie engine in the back.
I know mwmsport have done a clio turbo on the cheap using focus rs and st parts and think chip mapped it. Just want a fun cheap car to hoon around a track plus be nice to do a run again my mate mark butterworths orange r5 turbo

Cool build thread, liking the recent pics of the car going back together - on the home run now!
I used to have a grey 5 Turbo, reg was E966 DPL. I wonder where that is now, was tidy when I owned it I guess around 199/2000 ish.

Known mark and his brother James for years. Would like to more info/ideas on clio turbo projects. Do you think I'll regret building a clio turbo or are they that much fun to rival me buying another Evo etc?
Who was it that fitted a vag engine in a r5 gt turbo? Can't find info on it.
Sounds like all you last little bits are coming together and shouldn't take you long to finish it. Is your car gonna be used on track or just shows or just hoon around lol

Tempting to do it now you said that lol thing is I tend to go o.t.t eg I did a spec for the clio and its around £6k without the car but that includes forging engine, head porting, valves, manifolds, suspension, brakes but not ecu and mapping and maybe a few other bits lol, want it reliable as I can make it.
Ps and a diff lol
What seats are in your car? Are they standard ones or buckets?
