chips current grievance 2
I had a comment here before but Jay removed it and called it inappropriate as he took it out of context, hopefully this one though is written in a way where such exception cant be so easily taken to it and it can remain as the helpful post I would like it to be?
Stu, as I know you always like people to back up any comments with a clear example that you can refer to, here is one on topic with the comments earlier in the thread about moderator consistancy which seems particuarly relevant as it is something that has just happened.
https://passionford.com/forum/passio...ed-please.html
While in this thread people have been calling other users twats and idiots etc, and received utterly no punishment for it at all, someone making a joke about how a new name could be read, is given 50% of a ban from the site, despite the fact that person on the receiving end of the joke clearly wasnt upset by it anyway.
THAT is the big problem with passionford moderation IMHO, its not the rules, its the fact that it is totally and utterly at random how they enforced with soemtimes it appears to be done like this with utterly no application of any inteligence or reasoning at all.
Now Markyd3 has kindly said that he will look into it, so hopefully the outcome will be some sort of fair one in the end (I have a lot of faith in marky, he like myself, genuinely seems to want to make PF a better place), but if moderators could refrain from wading in with their size 10s on in the first place to such an extent as Tony did then it will mean that two things happen IMHO:
a) Users wont feel that mods are inconsistant and unfair
b) large amounts of extra work for the already busy mod team wont be created
No one ever respects any form of authority if it is inconsistant.
So my suggestions is that mods should think before they act, especially when the actions are to adminster a fairly severe punishment.
Perhaps before infaction points are applied there could be some sort of process where they are seconded by another mod, or where a discussion is had with the user.
I know that will be an increase in admin overhead in itself, but I believe that it will save far more time than it costs.
TRANSPARENCY IS THE KEY TO FAIRNESS!

Its not the post itself that they created, it was a thread and a thread title and then they moved in the content of my post from another thread.
I dont think they require any sort of a ban, just some basic lessons in reading things in context, I also think that as many of them seem to have their knickers in a twist, that they may require some new ones, I am quite happy to buy a job lot and post them out to all the mods if they send me their addresses.
Possibly some from a humourous cartoon or similar to put them in a fun mood?

If others want to see avatars and signatures then they can, mine included, but as I tend to view this window in a small window at work so I can see what is going on in other work related windows that I have open at the same time it suits me personally better not to have them displayed currently.

Obviously in my case its unwarrented as it wasnt really much of an insult (could be taken either way) and the member it was directed at has said it didnt bother them and responded in kind, so I assume that once it has been looked into that my points will be removed.
But overall I think its a good thing if moving forward we can get away from quite the level of insults there have been on here, its fun to join in the banter sometimes (im as guilty of that in general as many others are im sure) but I do think that the site would be a better place without it between people who arent reciprocating.
In fact Ive previously reported people who I have seen being insulting to other members and nothing has been done about it all (ie no red card appeared), so if moving forward it will be then I think its probably a good thing.

I would guess that they are attempting to "draw a line in the sand" and stop the amount of insults that have been reguarly dished out on this forum.

Agree 100% chip as there are far too many people slagging people off and insulting people and taking the piss out of people who are not as fortunate! imo there is no need its good to have a laugh and a bit of banter but to ridicule people is out of order, as i said earlier on the post in general discussion about how this place is run have a room for it and if people do it outside of that room then you get infractions and bans end of
But that said Im not acting the innocent victim here, as Im sure people sometimes find my remarks a bit too cutting or insulting etc, so I would be a hypocrit to say that it was something I had only taken not given, Im guilty of it too Im sure.
But I think we all need to accept that its started to get too common now and to all adjust accordingly.

A relevent comment....
Before "AJ" became "PF Admin", we (me an AJ) had a very banterous relationship on here and we were never nasty or unfriendly to each other.
I.E. We gave each other as good as we got and had a good laugh !
For example, he would quite often take the micky out of my busines past and call me a "cunt" and I would usually respond by replying with a short man joke as well as adding the C word.
Now this was 100% friendly at all times.
When old "AJ" became 2nd in command here, I PMed him and told him I would miss our discussions but he said to me we could carry on and be the same.
Now, my worry is as Tony hasnt been here for ages and may have not seen mine and "PF Admins" previous discussions and then see's a new one where I insult hime in a banterous manor, does that mean I will get points and/or ban automatically without discussion ?
Probably I would guess..LOL

Mark,
it was on topic and a genuine concern as I always follow the rules and am also the cause of new rules being made up as we go along...
If a clamp down on swearing/insults/banter is or already being enforced then surely it should be announced right NOW to stop people falling into the trap as chip has done !
And if indeed this is the case, swear words should be banned or at best filtered like they used to be.
I wasnt after an argument, I was just stating facts as they stand !
