Default any mods reading, read this please

lots of people have had pm#'s from someone called explorerchiky or soemthing who show a fairly explicit picture

opening up my pm from this person shows it right from the off

not a problem for someone who is looking at it in the privacy of their own home on their own in the middle of the night, but i'm at work and as it's flashed up it might get me into a lot of trouble

i know it's not soemthing you can prevent, so this isn't me having a go at any one other than the person who's sent the pm, but can you sort it please

i'm going to delete it now but i'm sure plenty of others have had the same thing judging by some of the posts

thank you

As much is i enjoy images like the one formentioned, i agree it is totally irresponsible and immature to send such a PM.

The forum software needs upgrading to catch this, its totally irresponsible if IB allow this to continue now its spread to this forum, as this WONT be an isolated incident if they dont do anything about it, given that people opening the PM are potentially breaking their companies porn policy and it will be flagged up by their proxy server as access to a hardcore porn site and could see some users potentially in trouble at work as a result.

Not really

I run V.Bulletin on my own website and a simple change of user groups and permissions is all that is needed to vastly reduce the risk of this happening again

I did put my theory within a thread but last night all the

"I got a porn PM"

got deleted !

Vastly reduce isnt any use when you are dealing with bot's

but yes, there are existing tools which could be used, like stopping new users pm etc

doesnt matter how they stop it, but they have a responsiblity to do so.

Any website cannot be responsible for all its members PM's but if I had paid Ł20 to be on a forum as a Gold Member the last thing I would want is a wide open **** in my in-box for my boss to see

i agree with you to a point mate, but i can do everything need to o for work while leaving other stuff running in the background

opening up an internet window doesn't actually stop the running of the computer to do the work i needed to do this morning, and now i'm like a security gaurd keeping an eye on stuff via the computer

if i were too busy oggling pron via pf rather than doing my job, then that would be a different matter

i also find myself agreeing wholeheartedly with chip's views on spammers being banned and all their pm's being binned at the same time, whereas the other threads may have been about people reciving pm's that were naughty, this one was directed at any mods who came on and saw the thread "mods" rather than a thread entitled "look at this funny pm i got last night"

Its not immature, its marketting, the PM in question was sent by a bot to advertise a porn site, to generate traffic for that site, how is that immature?

I think you have TOTALLY missed the point of what actually happened.

knowing that you know a bit about computers and stuff chip, how easy would it be to stop this from happening?
ie, would it be possible to spot a bot and instantly terminate it's account and any messages that have been posted by it?
or is this one of those times where you can be banned as a member but your pm's still work? a bit of a double edged sword sort of thing?

i'm not asking you to explain it in full details, just wondeirng how it shuold be dealt with as a lot of times we see mods telling us that posts that have been binned can not be retrived and bought back to life

As you are all aware, there were updates that took place on Passionford at about 10.30pm last night..... AFTER the explicit pm was sent.

We hope that this has resolved any future incidents and all we can do is apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Makes me laugh in honesty.
All the people moaning about "oh but I was at work, Im not allowed to look at stuff like that at work"
OR
"My missus was sat right next to me"

Sure all you lot that have your PC's "monitored" at work should really be doing some work, that IS what your employers are paying you for !
IF I was an employer I would be more interested in catching people logged on to forums/MSN etc for hours on end rather than some guy/gal looking at a couple of porn pictures !

AS for the I was sat next to my missus quotes, fuck me aint they a mature adult that could understand what had happened, bet your made to walk down the streets wearing a blindfold, just incase you happen to oggle at other women walking along.

A BIGGER issue could be if you opened it with a child or youngster next to you
BUT even then, if they old enough to understand it, then not a problem, if they're not old enough to understand it then it no different to seeing mummy in the bath or getting dressed.

What is more annoying is it HAPPENED !
Remember a while back Phill moaned about getting spam mail from the site, and he got shot down , maybe now youll agree with the old boy
Its not right, invasion of privacy type stuff.

nothing wrong with surfin the net while i'm looking at keeping things up and running, if there was then i wouldn't do it
what i do find shocking is that they have sent a pm contianing a picture, it could have just as easily contined a virus or soemthing which might have had mor than just a shock effoct on someone who opening it up, there was nothng to suggest there was anything in the pm, i would have expected it to be a link i would click to see soemthing as per normal spam shite

so yes, it is something that needs to be addresed really

YES there is, you are PAID to do company work.

IF you have got the time to surf (and from what I see of it you on here constantly) and OTHERS are doing the same with time to surf then I dont need to pay all of you, I could get red of at least half my workforce and double my earnings. NOW im not all bad, cos the ones that are left are obviously going to be bussier so they could get a pay rise (even tho im already paying you for doing the work I want).

BASICALLY what you are doing is theft and fraud, you are saying you are working for me when you are surfing for YOU !

Also if I was monitoring you i would make sure you had enough work load so you didnt have time to surf.

No wonder the country the way it is

Everyones view is theres nothing wrong with surfing the net, well didnt happpen years ago, and bet more work got done.

Seriously I look at this and can see YOU replying constantly ALL day, so how much of your day is spent doing what your employer pays you for and how much is spent browsing ???

I also recon what ever you say you could half the work stuff and double the surfing, you just dont realise how much you do it.

This is what I don't understand, I go to my work and I WORK. You get all these threads with 'Not safe for work' ect and I always think why should that be there? You should be working. If it's not on the thread folk kick off saying their boss could have seen that ect ect.. Who cares? How about you do some work. I appreciate people have breaks and they can use it then but some people seem to be on here ALL day every day.

Another good one is when PF is down and folk say "I had to do some work today" FFS, sort it out.

I SERIOUSLY wish I had the time at work to, I do have access to the web, but the only time I get to use it is if somethings broken and I need to download info on spares and or repairs, then it back to real work

Keeping the factory working.
Actually now I come to think about all ways wondered why we need just so many office staff, now becomes clear
If we sacked half of them maybe we could also get rid of half the imigrants, and pay decent money to get some decent staff where needed. TOO many chiefs and not enough decent indians, still dont look like the chiefs are any good either, playing oon the net all day

with all due respect, you don't have a clue as to what i do in the office during the day, so you can't make any sorts of assumptions as to the productivity posting on internet forums has to my job as a whole

but this is the basics of my job when i'm in the office:
if i need to do somethng, it's done, and then i sit here waiting for soemthng else to happen, not exactly rocket science but i know what i'm doing better than anyone else

i've just had a 20 minute phone call with my imidiate boss so i was concentrating on other things rather than looking here, but this morning, and last night, the work i was doing has been sent to every single person in the company, still get the work done so there really is nothing to complain about for my employers

but you want to retain double your workforce and pay them for doing half a days work? that doesn't make any sense to me, although i don't know what you do so it might be perfectly fine for you and your company

Well as people were still getting the PM this morning, clearly it wasnt enough.

Personally im not effected, as my company doesnt have a policy about what can and cant be viewed, but it would be a sensible move for IB to work a bit harder to prevent this sort of content being sent to people.

When the account was banned, ALL pm's sent should have been deleted IMHO

Good to hear they are actioning it though

The Rapid 1, lots of people have jobs that allow them to use the internet, but have a company policy against porn, particuarly in jobs which involve "standby time" where people need to be in the office and available, but dont have a specific task to do (think fireman for an example of someone who needs to be at work, but doesnt have a role to perform while there until something happens to react to)

RUBBISH there is always something to do if you there, ok you pick a reasonable example, but not 100% sure firmen just sit arround all day and do nothing, at night that maybe different where if you not on a shout then you sleep.
Like I said If I was the station master there would be something to do lol, the wheels on the engine could always be shinier lol.

BUT we aint talking that in general are we, we talking OFFICE workers that just sit on their arse all day anyway, and ile still stand by what ive said, IN OFFICES sure you could cut the ammount of staff needed to do the same work if internet access to everything but work related sites was banned ! Dont see how ANYBODY can argue with that statement, I am in the same sort of area in a different way, not on emergency breakdowns ALL the time, but when not there plenty of PM (PREVENTATIVE maintainance) jobs that can be done so the NEED for Breakdowns and emergency repairs becomes less, sure that can be applied in any role, in IT for example, streamlining systems, giving more training, so numptys dont have to call upon you so much and can sort there own LITTLE problems out, leaving you more time for a major network outage when it happens. Basically still say your company time could be BETTER SPENT !

Oh and Dojj
YOU say
but you want to retain double your workforce and pay them for doing half a days work? that doesn't make any sense to me, although i don't know what you do so it might be perfectly fine for you and your company

I AGREE that IS exactly what im saying, think YOU meant the OPPOSITE lol

Bit crap the marketing tho, considering the Pm. the website name was in stupid colours and not very clear to read. And "meet parents" what the hell is that.

sureley something in black type saying "come visit xxxxx.com for free porn" would me more appropriate.

guess its why i thought it was someone having a joke as it didnt look very "business"/advertising like.

anyway i can believe im even typing anymore, who cares.

anyway i can believe im even typing anymore, who cares.

Gotta agree with that as well, I thought it was someone having a laugh, not the best porn site in the world was it, one pic to look at, no groups, catagories etc, just one pic to click and get to see one more, jezz thought them sites died back 2000 time

I thought this site had something to stop "Bots", dont it have that input the text shown panel thing, sure it did, and was told that the reason why it was there was exactly to stop the bots

Steve
i sit in a pokey little office
lookig at a screen
with little vans on it
driving up and down roads
then i update the spreadsheet when they've made a delivery
or they call me if they have a delivery they can't find or deliver to see if i can help
there is nothign else i can do as i can't leve the office and i'm on an industrial estate with no scenery

what would you have me do with my time if you were my boss, who is 140 miles away, who has left me in charge of the same job for 3 other offices?

so i;ve got about 25 people who call me up to ask me what dto do if something goes wrong
and today, nothing did other than one guy handing in his notice at about half 3 in the afternoon
