Exclamation Public Liability Insurance

As we have many insurers on here I would like everyone's input on this subject, Its something I now have to deal with more and more and think the whole subject is a grey area and a bit of a con if honest.

Here's my reasoning for wanting to know, Some large car shows and all rsoc arranged events now insist you have this cover , but surely the venue and those that have booked the venue have this cover so why would yet another 3rd party need this ?, I can fully understand this if you are trading etc and may have generators or machinery of some sort, but not surely at being a paid invited attendee as those that attend in their cars are charged but if you walk in there is no such requirement,

scenario , joe bloggs strolls around a show and stumbles head first into a RS200 causing himself personal injury and damaging the car, is it fair the car owner has nobody to claim off, but I feel sure the chap has a port of call to make a claim

when i was doing the club stuff it was a case of "if you put up bunting and flags and stuff" then you had to have cover, but if it was just cars stood on a field you didn't

can't remember who we used but it was around £140 for a year, but this was several years ago so prices may have gone up and rules might have been changed but it's at least a starting point as to what to expect

think that covered us for something like £1,000,000 personal injury to any spectators but not for the cars on the stand or owners crashing into each other

i dont quiet get it my self , not car related but i run a karate club i have a full time venue , My governing body supply public liability for the venue while i remain a member , i have to have personal public liability , and my land lord also has it all for the same venue ? , Odd , for the record all member's have to have member to member liability also . Madness .

I have 2013s cover sorted dojj but i still think its a con, as sometimes the same event is covered on 3 or more insurance policys which cant be ethical, if you had 3 insurance policys covering one car it would be illegal

Could possibly be that organisations are wanting to get out of paying for claims thus reducing their premiums Steve. Heaven forbid something happens to a Club at Ford Fair I would imagine they would sooner said Club claim on their own Insurance than the Insurance of the holding Event ?

Not one person at any football game in this Country has PLI yet if you fell down the steps at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea FC were found to be liable, you would be paid out.

I honestly believe the route we are going down will result in corrupt fake claims. Sooner or later someone will turn up to an event with a damaged vehicle and suddenly claim someone's flag or gazebo has fell on it.

Once again common sense, honesty and integrity has left the building

I hear you sinbad but way too many bods are making money out of us for my liking, with your own club is it the case only paid members are covered, where as any invited non members have zero cover which now makes it impossible to be on any rsoc stand as a guest or a former member unless that group takes out additional PLI at non rs shows

They have released a statement in the Members area stating EVERYONE who attends a RSOC Show is covered but if you still want to have your own cover as well (belts and braces term used) then feel free to do so.
That's why I made the comments I did, sorry I thought someone had made you aware of what was happening

So in short PassionFord Club Stands are Insured

as no longer a member of the rsoc I was in the dark to the clarification but it is good news indeed for all visiting clubs, thanks sinbad

would still like to hear from those in the industry as to how at a event like classic ford for instance, the venue has insurance cover, then no doubt future publishing have it , then any visiting club needs to have it as its just plain crazy

I remember years ago someone was doing reverse doughnuts at silver stone (trax show I think) and she smashed up the guy who came second in the concours fiesta rst

He was fucking livid!!!!!! And so he threw his phone at her car

Turns out it wasn't her car at all, but her boyfriends

Not sure what happened afterwards, maybe someone here might remember it and shed some light on it

At least it won't be as controversial as the saph mating with a saph at a show recently

if you can, is it possible to have a list of exactly what the pf insurance would cover when it's active and what it owuldn't cover?

purely fro the point of view of your average punter compared to what theyr insurance would cover

Statement from the RSOC so as to not cause any misunderstanding

We can today make 2 statements concerning insurance for the RSOC and its members.

Public Liability and Shows including visiting car clubs:

Firstly apologies that this has taken a few days to resolve, however, we have now reviewed all aspects of the RSOC Public Liability Cover and are close to agreeing a revised and tailored policy which encompasses all of the needs of the RSOC, its members and visiting car clubs to RSOC shows. It also confirms that visiting car clubs are covered at RSOC events in 2013.

It is, of course, preferable and advisable for visiting car clubs to have their own cover, as the RSOC does, for the benefit of their own members and addressing their own risks, but for the purposes of RSOC shows they are covered.

It is important to remember that the RSOC policy does not cover any form of individual track activity (track days or parade laps) and anyone intending to go on the track needs to assess their own insurance needs and at RSOC shows they will be required to sign an indemnity.

RSOC groups (RSOC members only) who go to other shows should ensure that such shows are notified to Tony Francis and ensure they are recorded as "approved" shows for the purposes of insurance cover.

Car Insurance

When you receive your next RN you will see that we have negotiated with additional insurers to create a Panel of 5 Insurers, who all offer something different. This will add to and supplement (and still includes) Boncaster and Heritage to provide real choice and all members should be able to find insurance for their RS along with their other insurance needs. We are in the process of finalising the various agreements and will confirm shortly that it is all in place.

The above announcements are intended to let members know that we are working very hard to improve benefits to members.

We will add further detail as it becomes available.

The Committee
