Right, heres the deal. My little project car is sitting in a private car park, in my private space which comes with the flat i own. It is taxed and MOT'd but obviously as its not currently on the road it is not insured. Last night the **** who parks in the space next to hit swung his car in a bit hot and smashed the front light and scraped all down the wing and bumper. Not a huge amount of damage, and he knocked on my door all apologetic and offered to pay for it, but assuming he wants to go through his insurance, is the fact that the car isn't insured going to be a problem?

Not having a pop, just alerting you to the fact.
It's an automatic fine the same as if you forget to tax it.!
Came in on the quiet, just trying to give you a heads up.
Should I have bothered...?

You can still claim from his insurance it will not matter your car is not insured.
Whether its a car or a building hes damaged its not relevent, its still your property and its still damaged.

This might seem obvious but why get his insurance company involved if the damage is only minor. He would be better off to pay for the damage direct especially if he is your neighbour.
Someone ran into the back of my car a few years ago and it was on private land.
I was lucky as he was waiting for me when I came back to the car.
He agreed to pay for the damage himself and arranged for the car to be repaired.

Use their Property damage liability to claim for damages to your car. Thats what car insurance is for. And whether you carry it or not, doesnt change the fact that HIS car broke YOURS!

Well, i had a chat with the guy (pretty sound bloke as it turns out!) and we agreed that I would fix it and he would give me some money, rather than going through insurance companies and it all getting complicated. Seemed the least hassle for all involved really, and as said the damage is pretty minor. I reckon the wing will mostly polish out and i will have a spare sidelight on a donor car im getting this weekend. The bumper is the wost bit but ill sort it as best i can and if necessary pick up another bumper.
In fact, why dont i bang a couple of pics up (taken at night mind)!
