Default Insurance with GreenLight .. Help needed

only a quick one.

I am personally insured with GreenLight on my focus, however i emailed greenlight asking for a quote on my dads rs cosworth.

They came back and the amount was fine but he doesnt have the certificate of when the alarm was fitted over 17 years ago.

Does this mean i have to get another alarm for the car ? ... the reason i ask is we've it had it since it was 6 months old and when i buy the car later this year and go to insure it are other companies going to ask the same question. The car isnt modified at all aswell.

or can anyone help on this matter, any help would be grateful.

a 17 year old alarm will more than likely require updating in today's climate of insurnace risks

so best to get a new one bolted in and a nice fresh certificate to go with it

£400 is way expensive mate.

£220 ish will get you a good cat 1.

More so its not "just" a certificate- a 17 year old alarm will be useless, most 5 year olds would by pass it...

You can get your old alarm certified- look in the yellow pages at any of the installers- cost about £50+vat... but thats if it passes - which is wont, from memory thatcham stuff needs upgrading every few years or it goes out of date for some insurers.

Greenlight are an excellent specialist and well worth the messing about you have to do to get insurance with them.

Hi Andy,

Apologies for the belated reply, which was due to my working on several I.T. projects that have meant I had to "go dark" from a forum perspective.

Looking at your specific query, Shings (Jake) has pretty much covered it and I would echo what he says in relation to fitting new or getting the original checked along with a certificate reissue.

Either route suggested would be the way to go in relation to the security.

Most Insurers that request security with need this at the time of a theft claim and unless this is forthcoming they could withhold payment - we're just a bit more vocal when it comes to making sure our clients meet policy criteria, as we wish to avoid complications at claim time when you need it the least.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi VW,

There are two ways that Insurers handle vehicle security ratings, one is to make vehicle security a pre-requisite for certain models/values of vehicle - this will mean they require at least a "cat 2, cat 2 or tracking device" depending upon the circumstances. These will be already factored into the quoted premiums & without the correct/required security (or better) they will not be offered when seeking quotations.

The second is discount based, with tiered discounts for security systems.

These will vary from Insurer to Insurer but the specialists such as Herts, Flux etc will have the pre-requisite (first option) rather than the tiered discount route.

Not what you're going to want to hear, but on the upside with that kind of vehicle it will be far easier to cover and you will receive far fewer decline's than without that type of security fitted.

Hope this helps

Kind regards

Tony
