i also need pics mk3/4 escort 4x4 cossy conversion....
I am currently undergoing this project, I have bought a xr4x4 shell to use, i seen a few conversions using the sierra front bulkhead, tunnnel innerwings etc welded in...
just need to see sum pictures of back end setups..i want to use the sierra as I have it and its easy to get hold of when it breaks...
Anyone supply information and pics???

if you take out the spare wheel well you can make mounting points for the sierra stuf and get a fuel cell for the boot . the best way at the front end i would say is leve the standard inner wings in and make some bracketd for the cos engine cradle this wil realy save on fabrication

I dont mind losing the spare wheel well, i was gonna go for alloy tank its going to be mainly for track use...
I assumed welding in the front end like i think Lloyd ?? did on his restro thread would be easier... I think he took basically the whole front end and welded it in, then you got all your mounts and struts, rack etc already bolted up nice and square...
Im open to any suggestions please put forward your idears...
regards
Neal

thing is mate you dont want to go choping through origonal chasis legs on the escort it weacans it its also easier to do it this way as you will spend ages the other way cause the sierra inner wing isnt suposed to take the escort wings or front panel

The easist way is to cut the body off the Sierra, narrow the remaining floor pan a bit. Then do the same with the escort shell, and then weld the 2 together.
I say "easist" but its all realtive. Just make sure its all square before you start welding.

I wont be doing my conversion like that I think..
BUT I do plan to cut around the bulk head and down the trans mission tunnel into the car as its has the correct dimensions for the T5 box.
The weld that piece into my donor car.

where abouts did you cut the bulkhead on the escort
do you still have the top part off the bulkhead from the
escort, as i have the sierra cut out still trying to find
good escort to chop up

these conversions make me laugh, im sure there built to a good spec and all, but if these arent the most cut and shut cars ive ever seen
the life span of these body shells must be so short, one you weld two pieces of metal, the points around the weld become very weak, so i cant see the shells lasting without something really seriously being done to the seams

Testing the future
if you're going to all the trouble to fabricate something that involves that much work, there's no way that i would use a shitty beam and semi trailing arms from a sierra. very shit suspension setup.
search around on here for threads where brom and sibster have posted pics of their rear suspension setups that they've made - it's the way forward

Only prob is I still have to weld in a fabricated tunnel which as MARKK says will lessen the stregth of the car BUT I plan to make it as strong as possible- I will pay close attention to this point though.
I will be going the same route as Ian (Sibster) the guy is a top chap and has really helped me with loads of questions I have.
David- have you got any more pics of your cradle and also how you're mounting it? Or any general info-
Cheers
Jake
