If a mobile phone is stolen who needs to be notified first to make a claim to the insurance the police or network? why do the police need the IMEI number, is it possible for them to IMEI block the phone or is it to just identifiy the phone if its ever found? also when i IMEI is typed in does it come up on the system of the network or the police?

The police hun, as your phone company will ask for your crime ref number ![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
The phone comp will block the phone, the police will just need as many details as poss for their records in case it is found, they can trace that it is stolen
(I THINK
)

ive lost mine want to know similar thing.
the unforunate thing is though you are not allowed to simply lose them. they almost have to be stolen for insurances to pay out.

IMEI number is required to identify the phone if it is ever found as it is unique to each handset.
Also if it has been supplied by your Service Provider they will bar the phone (if the phone model has the capability) by using the IMEI number.
