Default MASSIVE thanks to Karl Norris

firstly it was a pleasure to meet you Karl, could of stayed chatting til midnight tonight but my missus was getting fed up of waiting for me

Anyway would just like to say a massive thank you to Karl, he has really worked hard on my car !!, basically there's a fault somewhere that made it VERY difficult for Karl to map the car to his liking, Which meant he had to spend loads more time tailoring the map. Aswell as adjusting his base map to suit like normal, he's had to pretty much write a whole new one because of my crappy car

The car now drives SOOO much smoother and i am so pleased with how the car is overall.

I cannot recommend him highly enough to anyone

Thanks Matey

Glad you followed my recomendations

Did you have to add greys to fix it?

i could probably have stuck to greens but lower the boost i guess. it always seemed that live mapping was the only way to cure it though ( although it isn't actually solved ) and since i had got a set of greys recently, Karl preferred to map it on them. The problem comes at around 5500rpm (as it did when you saw the car), but it's VERY peculiar.

The problem seems to be electrical and it is still evident in the fuel table plots Karl showed me, but he has managed to map it so it is perfectly safe

Defo gonna fit a GrpA coil this week and probably a new loom too, eventually we'll find the problem but Karl said he has never had a car so tough to map as mine he really did earn his supper

Thanks Martin, you're welcome!!

Hi Stu,

Yes had to put it on greys but I'm sure it has further electrical problems as the top end fuel map is not as it should be for a T34 car!

Its safe for now but further investigation into the wiring/loom is needed!!

Karl, I am surprised you chose to work around the fault by mapping.

Not saying this is wrong as I dont have all the facts.
What if the fault fixes itself could this not lead to a dangerous situatation
for the engines life ?

(Please dont take this as criticism just passing comment)

obviously i can't speak for Karl, but unfortunately the fault was VERY strange and not something that was easily diagnosable like most cossie problems, the fault is still there, but that is why he spent the extra time making it super safe. You know as well as i do he wouldn't have given it back to me if he thought it would cause major problems, Eventually it will be solved

Simon,

In an ideal world of course I fix every car. However when time and/or budget does not allow, mapping out slight issues is preferable to a car that does'nt run at all!

The issue seems to be inteference and occurs over a very small range of rpm. It does need investigation and will be looked into at a later date, but the car is safe for now!!!

End of the day the wiring is over 15 years old, nothing better can be expected and this is an issue (that we hate!!) that Stu and I have to deal with on a daily basis!!

Stu, cheers for the recommendation felt slightly strange driving a car plastered in MSD stickers!!!!

Last time Martin drove to me for me to look at it, it pissed down in a SERIOUS way so i couldnt do it as the fault occurs at very high rpm and she is rwd. I knew it was in Martins Interest to get it sorted locally if it had to be done in winter, so Karl was the ideal choice.

As long as everyone is now happy, nothing else matters folks.

it certainly did piss it down, i lost my number plate in a flood

and if i remember correctly it went really sunny about an hour after i left

it's lucky us cossie owners have the likes of Karl and Stu (and a 'few' others ) to look after our cars, they really fill you with confidence about what they do

Thanks to both of you

yeah he sure is, he went beyond what i expected to be honest, actually was expecting a larger bill due to the extra work, which included fixing the crap injectors i supplied
oh and i don't think Simon was having a pop, seemed a genuine question i think

depends on how 'violently' i drive it,but it spikes around 2bar-2.1bar and holds around 1.7-1.8bar.

Nice mate!

Wish I'd had a set of greys in the car when I got Karl to map mine, if I had known it was that simple and I could've had that much more boost BEFORE I went to see Karl I would have got the same as yours!

Tim, pull your nose out of dingys ass for 5 minutes and re-read what I actually posted please.

It was not a dig at Karl by any way or means and if you took it that way
then sorry, you are wrong.

I have respect for Karls work and I am sure if he is happy with the results
then that is good enough for me and his customer.

I like to discuss real car technical issues on this site unlike some others
who are plainly just out to stir things up.

So there is no missunderstanding - Well done Karl.

CharlieSaff Thanks mate, i could have had more boost if i wanted really,as there is still loads available with the greys, but didn't want excessive stresses on the engine (it's standard )

i very nearly had it mapped on greens, but i acquired a set of greys cheap and Karl preferred it be mapped on them. i think the driveability is the main thing, you probably wouldn't notice any more useable power day to day between mine and yours, only when chasing the limiter.

So is mine mate, slightly lower comp but that is because of the 4x4 pistons, but I'd have had all the boost going

My greens are really on the limit, and Karl said he prefers to map on greys because if anything happened you'd still have lots of fuel left, as greens are still quite a small injector! I think Karl is very cautious though!

putting karls expertise to one side, he FIRST checks everything over and fixes what is necessary to GET the car ready for mapping!

I took a 4x4 saff over to him recently, and although he had the car for about 10am, I recall him not even starting mapping it till WELL after lunch for various reasons.

None of my cars will go anywhere else.

yeah,he spent a lot of time checking things over and suggesting things i do to avoid problems, some things i hadn't even thought of but made perfect sense when i actually thought about it. The injectors i supplied appeared completely dead but Karl managed to get them working, which meant he'd saved me the best part of Ł300

Nice one karlos!

I also owe karl a huge thanks having recent spent 12 hours and working late into the night to make sure i could get home. He spent most of the day mapping the car (when it stopped snowing ) but when the alt died at the end of the day, instead of insisting on calling the AA he sorted what he could, stuck the battery on charge and took me inside for a cuppa....... this was at 10:30pm! I just managed the 65 mile journey home with, but only just lol

I dont even have to mention the car runs sooooooooooooooo sweet now, as i dont expect anything less anymore.

We've had quite a few problems with my engine, but karls always found the solution
