Car Finance checks - DO NOT USE this company
Avoid this company for car data checks:
www.carwatchuk.com/
Do not use these people if you want to check if a car is on finance.
I found out the hard way.
I used them (£20 on-line report)
The finance report said all was clear.
So I bought the car.
It turned out the car was on finance (with BMW UK Finance) to the tune of £10,000.
When I called them to check and confirm my indemnity (£20k according to the website) they said read the T&C's - not their fault (it's up to the finance companies to notify them!!).
Car finance data checks from these con-men are simply not worth the paper they are written on.
Do not use them!!
Use AA or HPI instead (they did have a record of the BMW Finance)

If I was you I'd write to a consumer watch dog type thing because - without knowing all the details - that sounds like shark practice.
The indemnity is there for the sole purpose of this kind of thing cropping up in the future otherwise whats the point in it???

Im sorry, but what they told you is 100% correct, it IS up to the Finance Company to log their interest in a vehicle, and a HPi report (or any other report) does not garauntee you that a vehicle does not have outstanding finance on it.
However, if you bought the vehicle in good faith as a private individual (rather than as a Company) to a degree the law is there to protect you and all may not be lost. Seek legal advice if you are in this situation.
