sorry mate but to me a saftey rope is a rope that you get when playing gladiators at the local leasure centre climbing there wall, when you fal you drop about a metre

that bloke falls and hes help in with a few wedges on a old rock, unless you could do better i would say give that man a banana

as for base jumping aswell, just takes a wrong gust of wind and he will be kissing the mountain

all that stuff made me ignore the car tbh

Spot on . Very talented, but if he fell, it would have been "only" 10-20ft. Speed "free" climbing is where it's at, and that is TOTALLY without ropes and same sort of climb. Trouble is, speed free climbers don't tend to live beyond a certain age.... .

That road is just off the Route Napoleon (N85) - I had a driving holiday 3 years ago and went on that road - took 4 days to drive down to Cannes ( where we stayed for a week ). Some of the roads on the way were absolutely brilliant, esp the ones ( like shown last night ) that follow the lines of the rivers through the gorges. One stretch of about 15 miles was constant fast twists and turns - really only needed 2nd and 3rd gear in the Cossie but the best bit was that it was late June, in the week, and we only encountered one other car.

The only thing I would have liked was aircon!!!

Wasn't the rope he had on him so his mate could climb up easily afterwards?

I wasnt questioning his talent or skill or mentelness but just pointing out he'd only have fell a few feet. The 'protection' is pretty good if you've put it in properly. I've done a fair bit of climing myself in my earlier years....never led anything hard but seconded up a few E3/4 category climbs ( dunno if they still categorise them this way theses days? ) and it's tough going but falling isnt too bad if your careful with your protection.

Still totally shits you up and turns you into a gibbering mong for a while but it's better than splatting a few hundred feet to the floor!

His mate was following taking out the protection he'd put in to stop them falling too far. That way you only need a relatively short section of rope rather than a piece the whole length of the climb......roflol

Fair play to the guy

Have to say my idea of fun isn't climbing a 1200ft vertical cliff using nothing but my finger nails and once arriving at the top just hurling myself off.

RS4 was awesome V8 revving to 8k rpm

Anyone see that base jumping program a couple of years back, the one where the guy died and they almost got it on camera?

Yep, very clever sport.
