I-Pod users - in car help required...........
Is there any way of doing the following?
Running a lead from the headphone port of the I-Pod to an RCA on the back of the headunit and using the AUX channel to play?
I've tried it, but can't find any settings to change to let the head unit know of the input.
Head unit is an Alpine9812.
Anyone else done anything similar?

rich,
if you go into the menu section of the headunit, it should allow you to turn aux on/off altho i think with it on it doesnt allow the cd changer (if you have one) to work.
i dont think the new alpine adaptor works with the 9812, i may be wrong tho

My bro has asked the question for me - Its my iPod we're trying to fit.
A friend of mine had his ipod connected to the back of his stereo using an RCA to ipod connector (the connector at the bottom of the ipod). He bought it from Maplin for Ł5. Only down side is it doesn't charge the ipod, but for Ł5, you cant expect miracles. Music quality is spot on.
I am now trying the same thing but have used an RCA to headphone socket and plugged it into the headphone slot on the ipod - This should work using the auxilary mode on my Alpine.
When I put the Alpine to Aux mode, you can really faintly hear the music when turned to full volume. I have seen this work so think it must be a configaration problem with the Aux input. Any ideas???
Trying to save splashing out the Ł60 for the module and didn't want to use the FM iTrip, as have had problems in the past.
Cheers so far though guys!!!

The outputs by a lot of the newer devices (through the headphone pre-amp) is
reduced ... maybe to stop kids blowing their brains out with normal volume)
Best with the proper adapter mate. They come up on eBay.

There are a few ways of getting the audio in to the car stereo. Easiest is some form of FM transmitter, either the FM Modulator or Belkin Tunecast or one of the others on the market. They are also the cheapest.
An option here a friend does with his WRX is he sits the ipod in a dock behind the gear stick and runs a cable into the FM input on the back of the head unit which has a splitter so he can put his normal FM input in as well. That is very good but like someone has said above, doesnt charge the iPod.
The best one that I have seen is:
http://www.mp3yourcar.com/
Only available in the US from what I have seen and does use the changer input on the back of the headunit.

Cheers for all of your replies guys.
I have now found out that for the Alpine units like mine - Alpine 9812, the 2 RCA's on the back of the unit are both outputs and the only way to use the auxilary channel that the unit has is by connecting an Alpine KCA 121B lead that turns your CD changer port into an RCA input.
Therefore you can have 2 RCA outputs and 1 RCA input but not at the same time as having a CD changer connected. The Aux channel will then work.
The lead is about Ł12. http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_p...partno=KCA121B
Therefore options are Ł12 for a lead (KCA121B) to use the ipod in the car, or Ł65 for the box of tricks (Alpine KCA-420i) that allows you to use your headunit to operate the ipod (therefore no need to ever have the ipod out of the glove box) and charge it at the same time.
Think it's got to be the Ł65 job.
Cheers though!
